Feedback on React Native codebase switch for Android phones
-
The new User Interface looks janky/wonky, the spacing is off, everything looks odd and displaced. It feels like now the space is kind of wasted, not optimized..
I tried to usethe new font scaling setting but it's not helping (because the baseline to start with is aweful: the font size is what changes, but the proportions/paddings are off).
Overall I find everything to be smaller, inside bot embeds too (for example there's a bot I play, has images inside the embed: since the avatars padding on the left of the screen is bigger now, the embeds are now squished even smaller.. ).
- Non-cached users mentions are now written explicitly with the full User ID, making it longer (and with the new font it is causing lining problems, it was "@invalid-user" before which was much shorter, thus creating less new-line nightmares in bot embeds).
- I am told that image compressing is also not working anymore, that was a handy feature for me when uploading multiple photographs! Not to mention the new gallery image list limitation, probably not a biggie but.. why fix what is not broken.
I understand you need/want to save money by unifying the codebase with the iOS one, but damn if for saving bucks you need to literally RUIN the experience for a good chunk of your userbase. I've read it in other post too: the previous app was perfect, polished, it ran well, it was native to Android.
What do you do? Trash it for an unusable and ugly one ... we can get used to the ugly, of course, over time ... but the performance just went down the drain. There are Android users who don't seem to have this problem, but it would appear that you pushed this update without enough testing.
I know you will not revert back to the native Android app, and will just fix the bugs that popped up on the new React Native, and over the years it will be further optimized. But now that's trash for most of us, so let us stay on the stable 126.21 version (hopefully forever, don't force-feed us the new update if it breaks the user experience on our old smartphones)

There were issues, especially on Tablets, with the old version. But the amount of stuff that doesn't work now is nuts.

I have no idea how that unoptimized React Native garbage made it past quality checks, it's horrible!
The performance of the app went from good to worse, it's unacceptable.
Everything lags to the point that inputs are skipped, this app is now TRASH.There's now pages and pages of negative feedback in these forums,
and they're still set on this crash course? It's unbelievable.I followed this tutorial on how to revert back to the old native android style app, and I'm sticking to it!
