Feature request: Nested voice channels (sub-channels)
Hi Discord team!
I'm creating this post on behalf of ATMO esports, a sizeable organization within the Star Citizen community.
We run a range of competitive events such as the Daymar Rally, Hurston Hurt Locker & Stanton 7. Daymar Rally in particular - our largest event - is the trickiest one to deal with from a communication perspective, sporting 140+ teams & 500+ racers. Add all of the staff on top of that and we're talking upwards of 600 attendees.
We've had to resort to running our events on a competing platform due to the lack of nested voice channels, but would much rather use Discord for cohesiveness.
In the example below, teams are able to communicate in their respective channels while staff can do the same in theirs and still be able to relay information to the sub-channels effortlessly without having to jump in and out of channels.
- Voice Lobby
- Pre-race Briefing
- Broadcast Booth
- Green Room
- ATMO staff
- Racing Team 1
- Racing Team 2
- Racing Team 3
- Racing Team 4
- etc
This feature must have bubbled up on a dev meeting or two and it could certainly be applied to non-gaming purposes.
Would love to know if it's in the works. If you need testers, we've got you covered.
Lots of events coming up and the Daymar Rally is just around the corner! :-)

I would love to be able to create temporary nested voice groups. One of the problems that I run into with Discord is if I'm in a voice channel with some friends chatting and a couple people decide to play a game, they start making call-outs about their game to everyone, most of whom are not in the game with them. As of now the only solutions are to either have the whole group deal with it, or for the people playing the game to move to a different voice channel and lose out on chatting with everyone else.
It would be nice if they could make an ad-hoc group within the voice channel and set a keybind for push-to-talk within that group so they could talk about their game to each other without interrupting everyone else, while still being able to contribute to the conversation within the larger voice channel.
An example:
- Voice Lobby
- Game 1
- Amy
- Bruce
- Charlie
- Game 2
- Danielle
- EvanIn this configuration everyone could talk to each other, but if Amy wants to say something relevant only to Game A, then she can say it to Bruce and Charlie without interrupting Danielle and Evan.

Also a Star Citizen player, Also need this for org events to facilitate communication and minimize cross talk.
