I have a thread that I don't want to delete, changing the post title creates those posts in the thread that I can't delete.

  Completely agreed! I sent a bug report about this thinking it wasn't working right or they might've just forgotten to implement the feature because it was so obvious, but Support claimed it was by design. What kind of lunatic would deliberately clutter a conversation with irremovable inline notifications?
