Personally I disagree, I feel like having this section can help new users jump in to what's going on in a community with ease.

I'm a tad bit late on this one, but god yes, get rid of this "feature."
Discord is not a content farm. It should not BE a content farm. Discord will not gain respect from turning into a content farm.
Aside from the obvious, getting in the way of standard server use, not being able to be disabled or hidden per user settings, and just generally being overbearing, it also tries to be its own little content-feeding algorithm (think YT, Twitter, FB, etc), and I don't think that's appropriate for a medium that is a messaging platform at base.
Let us use servers as normal -- we can determine what channels will be useful to us, and we will determine what we want to read. If you're worried about missing out on astounding revelations and topics, ask around, or use the built-in search function to find what you missed. Spoon-feeding content is not the solution.

I'm not even sure how this feature is selecting for "community engagement" - there's no upvoting or engagement metrics in discord other than emote responses or replies.

In servers with this function, the "selected content" for me is often content I've seen that's over a week old with no emote responses... so it just feels completely random.
