Design Changes: The Good and The Bad
We all know by now that there is a new design. We get it, Discord needs to refresh it's look after 6 years. Here are my thoughts on the new design:
The good:
- Clyde is out of his bubble and he is symmetrical. That gives more creative freedom and makes it more pleasing to look at, that's understandable.
- New color palette. It's nice to see something new, but I have my complaints, I'll get to that in a second.
The bad:
- New color palette. Everything is just a bit over saturated, it hurts not only my eyes, but many others, and I'm not one to be color sensitive. I've read complaints from people that it almost gives them migraines or "has an epileptic aura" (I'm paraphrasing for this one I lost the reply). The old blurple was iconic, and I get that change is good, but tone down the saturation please.
- The font. I personally don't like the font, but that's just my opinion. I've seen many that do like it. It might just be me, but all of the letters in the logo feel squished down except for the 'i', which is taller than any other letter, even the capital 'D.' The old font just felt more unique, but I will get used to it soon enough.
Final Thoughts
Change is good, and making a friendlier logo is something a lot of companies like to do, I get it. It will take me a little to get used to all of the new things, like the mentions and reactions. That being said, there are some key things I think need to change, such as the color saturation, as it strains eyes, and the logo font feeling squished. Keep up the great work, I'll continue using Discord even with these subjectively minuscule changes.
TL;DR: Change is good, updating Discord after 6 years is perfectly reasonable. Colors too vibrant, logo font feels squished, we'll all get used to most of it soon enough.
