Increase usable UI space by allowing the user to hide the channel list
I don't know if others are like me, but I don't typically use Discord maximized. I tend to have it and another window split sharing the width of my screen 50/50. Unfortunately that doesn't leave much room in the center pane of the app for the chat - especially if the messages are longer, and contain attachment previews, etc. I know I can close the member list, but I prefer to keep it open for the visual indicators there. As a workaround I have the UI zoomed out almost all the way (67%) with the chat text scaled to max, but makes the UI text harder to read. I don't really like how compact view looks, and I don't think it ultimately solves the issue.
I believe an elegant way to solve this would be to provide the users a way to toggle whether or not to pin the channel or friends list open. If unpinned, hovering over/clicking the server icon would display the channel list as a flyout, rather than the current behavior of just showing the server name. Hovering over the upper direct messages icon would do the same, but show a flyout for the friends list instead.
