Make mobile UI optional.
I don't think anybody wanted this. The UI was fine the way it was.

Agreed. I went from loving the ease of use and simplicity of the old version to wanting to set fire to HQ. That takes skill to do but it's not the kind of skill anyone wants at their company. Whoever designed this should leave this industry and go into fashion as that's an industry where people seem to like restrictions. I will never have enough words to fully convey how much I dislike the thoughtlessness of whomever created this.

This changed way too much at once and was completely uncalled for. The old UI worked just fine and was what everyone had gotten used to. This new UI is terrible to navigate for anyone who has used Discord for any length of time prior to its release as it moves DMs to the bottom of the screen and has changed what swiping does on mobile. It feels like learning an entirely new platform, not like an update to a platform I've used and supported for years. This is genuinely making me seriously consider moving to a new messaging platform, it feels like just another kick in the balls after all the things that have changed in the app this year alone, and the seeming lack of attention to obvious app-breaking bugs.
