My trust for Discord is broken. I am so disappointed. I feel so betrayed.
I had a really difficult time using Discord after the update. The new dark mode color hurt my eyes and I kept encountering bug after bug. Some of the bugs were major accessibility issues for me, like color combinations being unreadable in some places, the app rotating when my phone rotated even though I have auto-rotation turned off on my phone, the text from the messages I sent remained in the input field after sending, and the emoji button didn't work at all so I couldn't access emoji or gifs. I don't understand how something so broken could be forced upon users. And that's not even mentioning the terrible new UI layout, not being able to access channel settings and the member list by swiping, the pins being more difficult to locate, and servers and DMs being in completely separate tabs.
I actually cried from relief when I got the older version installed again. I use Discord to talk to all of my friends and some of my family. When the update hit me, it was like being in a room full of people but not being able to speak to anyone, or see what was going on, or reach out to touch anyone--it was like it suddenly severed me from my entire social life in a visceral way. This update is terrible for everyone, but it is also disproportionally affecting disabled users like me.
I've been using Discord since 2016 and I have always spoken so highly of it to people and sometimes practically begged some people to get it because it's the easiest way for me to keep in touch with them. A friend that I have known for 20 years finally got Discord two days ago and I was so happy, but yesterday I told them I want to make sure they won't get hit with the update or didn't already have the updated version. My trust for Discord is broken and I am so disappointed and I feel betrayed.

You mentioned some excellent problems that my post didn't even cover. In addition to this you should consider rating discord one star on the app store. We can always go back and updating the rating later, however the fastest way to ensure that future mobile updates like don't happen again, or ensure that we have the option to ignore the new features, is to make sure discord hears us on every possible front. I'm very happy you got the old UI back and I hope that discord takes your feedback into consideration.

Hi GraduateBard, I did that already! And that is an excellent suggestion.
But I want to warn people--if you go and leave a 1 star review in the app store, return later to make sure it wasn't undone.
I changed my rating to 1 star and left a detailed review. Later that day I went back and found that my previous 5 star rating had returned. So keep on it.
EDIT: I just checked again, and my 1 star review is gone again. That's shady af.

They made all new reviews private/developer-viewable only, which is a coward's move.
