I usually don't go as far as to leave angry comments but your UI is unnecessary and hostile to the user
I value my routine. I value things staying how they are when I set them to be the certain way. I like curating my own experience. Maybe this is why this pisses me off so much.
To change the layout in such a sudden way is to completely disregard the userbase comfort. Listen. I know you want to be Messenger. I see it in this stupid layout. But you're not and you won't be. You have a pre-existing user community that is used to a completely different layout and I - and I'm sure many - am at a point where I'm reconsidering ditching the mobile app altogether. Whatsapp exists. I'd make do. This is for… what? Do you have a requirement tally of bad decisions somewhere on the wall in the HQ? Do you have to meet the blunder quota before the year ends?
The design and subsequent changes in it should be for the sake of the users' comfort, not to achieve the opposite effect. I'm almost sure some executive figured “this app is doing better and it looks different so lets try to make ours similar”. You fool. You naive buffoon. Are you not aware of your own strengths? Are you not aware that your differences from it were your strong suit? Were your beta users not allowed to speak? Were they forbidden from screaming in terror?
I hate the separation of servers and DMs into completely different tabs. It's counterintuitive and annoying to jump between. I hate how slide-y everything feels - but only to a degree because you have to click the channel's name to see the users in it instead of sliding because now sliding in that direction is how you seem to expect people to interact with individual messages which, as a left-handed person, I hate. Blocky, big and the opposite of compact. Completely disregards the muscle memory the userbase managed to work out in the past few years. You're not a new app anymore and you can't just reinvent yourselves because you feel like it unless you're ready for backlash.
Completely ridiculous that this change is non-optional and mandatory. I'm not even gonna ask how my app got updated with auto-update off, even though I'm pissed about that. I'm asking why something at least as simple as a Legacy Mode option was not implemented for those who would rather not go through this change - and, as you can see from your Mobile Feedback page, there are many who count as that. Kind of incredible to see an app ruin itself like that, honestly. I'm sure you spent (and kind of wasted) a lot of money on this but I promise you you'd be better off just rolling this back. I haven't seen a single positive comment about this. Not a single one. Not on Twitter, not in the Store, not Reddit, not Tumblr, not my real-life environment, nothing. I have no idea what you were thinking but this invokes imagery of a gas leak somewhere in the building that no one detected in time to stop this decision from rolling out.
I'm begging you to get it together and stop doing whatever because I'm not sure if you know this but UI can stay unchanged and troubleshot. You really don't have to reinvent the wheel here. Please get well soon.
