Maybe We Should Have Known...
We all hate the new discord update. It's abominable, ugly, clunky, unwieldy, unnecessary, and many users (like me) are also experiencing a massive issue with lag.
I've been a loyal discord user since 2017. While I haven't bought Nitro, I had made plans to do so. I don't usually subscribe to services like that, buying it once or twice was more than I'd usually do. Then the update hit.
Upon reflection, perhaps we as users should have expected this. Minor UI changes were okay, manageable. Some were even improvements, and some were of course fixes for bugs. Then the tags at the end of users were taken. You took away people's creativity, the ability to have a witty username if it wasn't unique. You slowly began to chase after BigTech more and more, and the way of the Tech industry itself gave us a warning. Programmers often get more pay by just how many lines of code they can write. Awful things like the recent update aren't novel, they're quite normal realistically.
This update is horrifying. I nearly had a panic attack over it, in part because I almost doubted it was real and in part because of the intense eye strain that gave me a headache. Where's accessibility, where's progression? You lose loyal consumers by the lack of usability alone.
I loved your app. It was a novel thing when I was younger and was something I'd grown accustomed to adoring now. The headache inducing high contrast abomination that is discord dark mode now is the least of it.
You changed your UI. You didn't make things easier, you took away beloved features that weren't buggy, things without fault that were unique to discord and wonderful to use. We don't need a swipe to reply. We don't need a separate tab for DMs. We don't need a status banner in DMs. We don't need this clunky, horrendous, laggy thing.
If you were to give us the discord we loved back, I think many would take it. I know I would, even if I've lost all trust in your app. An app I, among many others, cannot use anymore. I would take it happily, buy Nitro so this never happens again, enjoy the app that'd been part of my day-to-day life.
But Discord, there's something I haven't yet mentioned. I went to this page, mobile feedback. I tapped sign in. Was this intended to block me out? Were you actively keeping users from speaking? I couldn't sign in. I have my login credentials written down, neat and simple. I couldn't log in. With the password I've had for nearly a year. I had to change my password to give feedback. Maybe it was something on my end, maybe it wasn't. All I know is that the new and “improved” discord UI needs to change. And fast.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk, and thank you for reading.

Regarding the last bit- The Support section here is built on Zendesk, so it requires a separate account than the regular Discord login unfortunately. There are ways to integrate this but Discord has not done so. (We had to for the portal at a company I worked at before)
Regarding the rest, Agreed! This is an opportunity for Discord as a company to set things right, or go the way of Skype and other apps of the past and begin falling apart. Hopefully they will make the obviously right move. Discord can't exist without it's communities.

Where's accessibility, where's progression, and where is care for the people that use the app??? They're only trying to appeal to companies with the same lack of flair that all social media apps have at this point. I think they've made it clear that they don't intend on accommodating for the users genuine feedback. Honestly, I don't understand the point of these forums, or the point of beta testing and response gathering, if everyone is going to point out a problem and they simply refuse to acknowledge it.
I really hope I'm wrong. But honestly the only thing I can see myself doing is cancelling Nitro, uninstalling Discord, and going back to the apps that I know won't pull this kind of stunt. Honestly that one mimic app Revolt looks promising

agreed 100%!! i’ve considered trying nitro out before but this latest update kicked that to the curb. they’re not getting my money for this, but this update sucks so bad. I can’t afford to leave because my friends are here but it really sucks that they’re turning discord into a completely different app from when I joined in 2017. it doesn’t feel the same anymore.

I was also considering getting Nitro! Now I definitely won't be until this is changed, as I can't guarantee I'll even be able to use the app if I got Nitro. I can't open it long enough to determine if I can get used to the new UI because the color update gives me migraines so I can't use the app.
