New Dark Mode Colors Are Physically Painful To Look At

The recent change to the UI would be somewhat okay-ish, however, the new dark mode is physically painful to use. All three themes are too high-contrast, and make the app unusable for the disabled people in its userbase, including myself. For reference, I’m autistic and have an extreme distress reaction to sudden, forced changes, as well as sensory issues related to high-contrast. I physically can’t use the app anymore due to headaches and extreme distress, and have had to uninstall it until a more sensory/disability friendly theme is made. The old dark mode colors were perfectly fine and cozy, and there’s already a midnight mode, so making the dark theme darker was unnecessary and disabling to many. Please reconsider.

    I agree. A friend of mine was complaining about the dark theme being too harsh and I didn’t understand. But I relaunched the iOS app today and it is definitely bad. The old theme was a neutral dark gray with a light gray text and much easier on the eyes. The new dark theme has a darker background and brighter text, which is difficult to look at and read for anyone with even a slight astigmatism, light sensitivity, or eyes that work. 

     

    I understand locking “custom” themes behind the nitro paywall, but please let us keep the original look instead of making us pay for accessibility that was previously built-in.

    I'm having the same issues with the new color scheme. I am actively avoiding the app whereas I used to check it constantly, because the color scheme makes me so damn uncomfortable. I use Discord exclusively to talk to several friends and groups that I'd rather not lose contact with because of a bad update, so I'd really appreciate if discord 1. Adds the old theme as a free option or 2. Adds a sliding scale for the color of the text and the background.

    Also, please change the UI back if possible. It's really uncomfortable, as someone with hand pain and joint issues.

    I'm having a great deal of issue reading the new dark mode. Please at least include the old grey as an option. The contrast is too high - it's extremely difficult to read with astigmatism.
