Optional Mobile UI option (2023)
The most recent change to Discord mobile has been a nightmare to long time users & nitro subscribers like me. The changes that were made that upset me the most are:
1. ❌ Made the swipe left into a reply
> ✅ Swipe left should be kept to view server members.
2. ❌ Removed the dm bubble & adding it to be bottom tab
> ✅ The dm bubble should be kept, and preferably toggleable if you guys really want to push the new UI system at the bottom of the screen for iOS.
3. ❌ Added the new UI to direct messages. To view it, click the recipient’s name.
> ✅ Clicking the name on the top of my screen inconveniences me now. I keep all of my typing at the bottom of my screen & on the sides, which is what made swiping so helpful & efficient.
4. ❌ Changed the UI when viewing another user’s stream.
> ✅ It’s now too cluttered and difficult to manage on the fly.
5. ❌ Added a button for Nitro gifting beside the chat bar that changes into a thread icon when you begin typing a message.
> ✅ Move it to the server drop down menu/UI OR somewhere else entirely. Too many buttons by the text chat.
❗️Special problem/bug: When looking at pins in dms, all pins will show as another user’s profile picture, even if the message was sent by you.
Now that the changes I dislike are out of the way, I want to mention the few good ones.
⭐️ The individual server UI looks nice & clean.
⭐️ The notification tab & toggle to remove indirect mentions is really helpful.
⭐️ The little animations for clicking buttons is cute.
This should have been an opted in experimental update rather than rolling it out to all users. The design right now isn’t cohesive. It feels like things are being changed for little to no reason when most of the user base doesn’t seem to want these changes. This is pretty obvious to everyone I know & other users voicing their displeasure at this new update.
Note: I’ve been paying Nitro for a long while now— but if this UI keeps changing so much AND so often, I might reconsider putting money into Nitro. I’ve seen friends do the same & have contemplated doing it myself.

You wrote this so eloquently. I agree 100% to all of the above. I really hope the Discord devs listen to us this time.

I agree with all of this, and you've laid it out quite well.
To back this post up, these are my biggest pain points, aside from the sluggish loading since the update (which im sure will improve with future tweaks):
- the swiping being changed to reply instead of viewing the server/group information (of which the panel for seems less useful now, even if prettier). It makes it difficult to see who's online in the server or group dm. This is an operation I do WAY more frequently than using a direct reply, so I don't see why replying needed to take priority here, especially since long tapping is just as easy and still exists. Honestly the swipe reply pattern in chat apps has ALWAYS felt like a miss for me, as it happens by accident more often than intentionally. I'd rather an action be slightly more inconvenient so long as it prevents accidents and mis-taps.
-the split of dms and servers. Seriously, who asked? The previous version already had a nice flow and mirrors desktop. And desktop's design was great here. Bottom tab components are honestly a waste of space when you already have a solid as heck drawer going on.
Overall I think where this change is driving users makes little sense. You're hiding useful tools and information behind tedious menuing but without any benefit to the flow or usability imo. And these changes just create a weird disconnect between this multiplatform experience, one that i swap between hourly.

I feel like the experience on Discord is not bad but if the developers can fix this problem further it will be even more popular such as connections game

Users may question Nitro's current value if the constantly changing user interface outweighs its benefits.

I think the experience on Discord is pretty good too, but if the developers can address this issue, it has the potential to become even more popular.0
