New UI problems
There are quite a few problems with this new ui update that need to be addressed. I'm lumping together the last few that have been pushed out
1. Lack of swipe function to get to channels/users - By far one of the worst things discord could have possibly removed. Every mobile app I know has this feature where you swipe away the channel to get to your list of new channels, and it's like that because it works. Having to reach up to the top of the screen effects people with limited mobility, making the app more difficult to use
2. Color of notification dot too similar in value to background - The blue used to alert you that there's a new notification is too similar in value to the gray background of the toolbar. This makes it incredibly hard to see at a quick glance when you've got new messages. That entire bar at the bottom is incredibly unintuitive and user UNfriendly
3. Eyestrain with new color - I've heard from people who use the new mobile app that the color change gives them such a bad headache that they can only use it for minutes at a time. The ability to change this to not give them headaches should not be behind a pay wall (i.e. the themes that nitro only users get) as this shouldn't be an issue in the first place. If your app is causing issues to someone's eyes, a solution needs to be done that doesn't require you going “well if you pay xyz you won't have to deal with it”
4. Image selecting - The additional steps to pull up the images you want is, at base level, just stupid. Again with the mobility issues, it just creates another barrier people have to use to get to the most basic functions of the app, which is one of the worst business moves you could have possibly decided to make
5. Links - Links aren't going to the designated areas from before. It's opening in browsers people don't have discord set to open certain links to, which is a problem
There's definitely more issues but ive forgotten them
I get that they want to be like other apps, but discord Not being like other apps is what made it great to use. Now they're just a bunch of cash hungry, money grabbing a-holes. It's genuinely not an app I'd recommend to my friends anymore, let alone encourage anyone already existing on it to continue using it/supporting it
If their goal was to completely destroy the communities faith in them even further after the 4 digit discriminator removal, they've succeeded and I applaud them. If that wasn't their goal, then I genuinely have no idea what the goal was in the first place. Because no matter how many times they try to say its for the betterment of the app, I can't believe them
