The iPad UI update misunderstands how a tablet is used (UI nightmare!)
All of the swipe gestures have been removed in favour of buttons and ill-thought-out menus to facilitate swipe to reply and parity with mobile.
The iPad screen is large, comparable to desktop monitors, but the interface is a primarily touched-based. Most people do not have a mouse paired and are using their hands to hold the device. This means opening a menu with a button on the other side of the screen requires reaching nearly a foot across. Whether or not you're able to do so, doing many actions in quick succession now takes a far greater amount of of time and effort. Even moving at lightning speed you have to deal with the menu animations. Who decided this? Do they actually use an iPad? And why have they abandoned parity with desktop? Moving between the different versions is confusing, all the buttons are in the wrong place. So often I almost accidentally call people when I mean to search the chat. Earlier today I almost closed a dm while checking if someone was online, because I simply can no longer swipe across to see.
Bring back the multi-gestures! They are a keystone of iPad UI, foundational, having been built into every app for over a decade. I want to be able to swipe to see the members list and nobody wants swipe to reply. Discord on the iPad as it stands is completely impractical!!!

completely agree! Removing swipe gestures for buttons and menus has made using Discord on the iPad much more cumbersome. Reaching across the screen is inconvenient, and the inconsistency between desktop and mobile versions is confusing. Swiping to navigate was a core part of the iPad experience, and the new setup makes actions slower and more frustrating. Please bring back the multi-gestures—they're essential for a practical and efficient user experience on the iPad!
