Separate 'Manage Messages' into 'Pin Messages' and 'Delete Messages'
We just had someone abuse the fact they needed to pin messages to delete actual evidence regarding a transaction :\ We should be able to allow pinning messages without allowing them to do something potentially damaging.
Pinning is transient and not very exploitable, deleting is extremely harmful by comparison as you can't get them back.

You should be allowed to delete your direct messages, without doing anything else. I have never been on a service that did not have a simple method to do so. You should be allowed to delete one message at a time, or all at a time, just as you do email. I do not do transactions on here. You should be able to delete the message on your side of things. I am not saying you should be able to delete the message on both sides of the direct message. I know nothing about "pinning", unless it is to pin a message to the top of a board. Also, it should not be deleted and then stored on a server for who knows how long either. I am new to this place, and I cannot believe this has not been worked out from the beginning. Otherwise I like it.

Bumping this, because I'd love for my server members to be able to pin whatever without also providing everyone the power to delete things. The two have vastly different levels of severity in terms of "things that can go wrong."

I would also really appreciate this feature. I'm not able to be on my big server all of the time and I know the members would like to be able to pin messages.

DISCORD. PLEASE DO THIS.
1 -
Just ran into this myself today. Would be nice to have them separate.
1 -
Yes please. Separate delete and pin permissions seems obvious.
1 -
Can we please get on this Discord team pleeeeeease?
1 -
I already submitted a feedback / feature request ticket.
Fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, to give this topic a little bit more visbility you should click the up arrow on the OP.3 -
Yeah I'd really like to give my server members the ability to add pins without butchering the message history.
1 -
A year and still nothing on this very basic CORRECTION. This is not an improvement or an added feature, this is fixing something that is actively BROKEN.
2 -
Would love to have these privs separated. Pinning is very easily something you can pass off to your average member, deleting anyones message definitely is not

Where is this up to please DEVELOPERS???
I need this urgently in my server.
I cannot give people the permission to pin, because people have both accidentally and intentionally deleted postsAlso, why is there a 50 pin limit? Can this be increased somehow?
-1 -
Still can't believe this hasn't been implemented. Shouldn't have even been the way it is in the first place.
3 -
I would appreciate the pinned comment being identified in the chat (eg. with a small pin). That way you can see where they are in the flow of conversation.
The "X has just pinned a message" is very intrusive, and usually completely irrelevant. I am often working in the background while others are chatting and the notification pops up resulting in those users engaging with me and losing the thread of their own convo.
-2 -
You are very confused. That has nothing to do with this suggestion.

@lunarinyans
I am not confused at all.
Perhaps posting in the wrong thread is what you should have said.
Wtf has happened to people's communication skills
I have deleted my comment. This would have been a clear and polite re-direct:
Your post seems to be referring to pins, and the way they are displayed in Discord. This thread is specifically requesting that Discord separate the permissions of "pin" and "delete comment".
There might be a thread that your comment will be better seen in?Polite, respectful.
And see how I didn't DOWNVOTE?

Well, I'm sorry for hurting your feelings, but "confused" is the proper word to use there. Perhaps your suggestion makes sense, but this thread is completely unrelated. My reply wasn't even rude, it was just simple and straightforward.

This definitely needs to be addressed, rather than working around it by using dynobot to log all messages in case someone deletes them.
Thanks in advance!
2 -
Looking into dynobot now. Thanks for tip for a workaround until it is addressed!

I just opened the floodgates to my server and immediately realized this needs to be a thing and shocked to see it's been requested a year ago and this feature is still not a thing.
2 -
PLEASE fix this. It makes no sense to have pinned messages be attached to message management. Being able to edit and delete messages can be separate and it's own thing, since that power is HUGE and can be exploited, but being able to pin messages is not very exploitable and is very transparent by comparison

I'd love this feature

Every time issues raised on this forum have to do with separating permissions that are tied together, people completely ignore that a bot could solve all of those problems a lot easier than discord staff.

@iicandyhearts some of us here need this change to be implemented fundamental to the way our servers operate. If you can suggest a free bot that can allow users to pin messages I'd really appreciate it until Discord attend to this. I'd like for all of my members to have the "pin" feature, but I definitely want only moderators to be able to delete messages.
My server is for research.
At this point I have offered members their own channel under a "researchers rooms" category. In that channel I have activated the "pin/delete permission" so they can tidy up any chat, and keep text handy they want to refer back to.
Not ideal, but best I could come up with.2 -
Yes. I need this.
I really want to give the ability to ping messages to some users on my server, but i don't want to risk those users deleting messages with bad intentions..
1 -
+1'ing this. It's silly to have them combined, and sillier to have to use third party bots to manage pins.
3 -
They care only about money, if they'll be paid enough then they'll fix simple problems they've caused themselves. It's like demanding a ransom for releasing a must to have function.

Any updates on this? Really dumb two things that are not related to each other are lumped into 1 setting.
1 -
Requesting this as well, would make giving pin permissions a lot easier to hand out without worrying about people deleting things, accidentally or on purpose.
