Vr Overlay
Discord has an in-game ovarlay. ingame overlay display messager over game. over lay does not display messages in VR.

Been doing some searching, but couldn't find anything that displayed notifications in VR. So yeah, this needs to become a thing.

omg bump, while windows mixed reality can do desktop overlay in vr, its not the best and a simple vr overlay would make life so much easier even more so if it was movable into a fixed location / transparent so i can still see who joined the channel without taking off my helmet :D

Went live playing a VR game for a friend to watch that had no mic, would have been cool if I could have seen his messages while playing.

Yes! would love to be able to interact with Discord while in VR. Also would love it to STOP marking me as away/idle when I'm playing Half Life: Alyx all night long! Do not wish to set DND in order to prevent the idle timer. This should not be happening anyway, the computer certainly is not idle and is receiving input from the user. But idc about that, VR discord overlay much more useful!

I found this post by searching a VR (Oculus Rift) overlay for Discord on Google, please add this feature. I can only see messages with the actual Oculus feature but I can't type messages in-game.

Bump:
Oculus home supports adding windows into your VR space, When you're ingame, open the oculus menu, Virtual desktop, then you grab the screen you want to pop out, so palm flat to discord, grip and pull back, it'll drop into your oculus space, place it where you want it, resize so you can read it, then use the pin feature to pin it to the experience.
Blue pip at the bottom shows the Pin button

I do VR with the computer strapped to my back. Desktop view doesn't work anymore. A discord overlay needs to be made, for so many reasons. Please assist me in throwing money at you.

They don't even have the overlay working on more than one of their three platforms. It only works on Windows. Of course, those requests have been coming for just as long as well.

Having a vr-specific overlay straight from discord would be a boon for me as I can't just use desktop mirroring due to hardware issues.

Okay, so my workaround to having discord open on rift S is the following;
Open discord on desktop, put headset on, use grip and trigger on virtual desktop to pull the discord window out, this makes a new window in your VR space, and then at the bottom right is a button to pin it to the experience, this will force the window to stay open in VR games but it also won’t show in streams or recordings, and you can interact by just opening the oculus menu then interact with the window as you would normally

you can do it on oculus browser. i did it and it worked. i just had to sign in and boom! everything was there. seriously i was litterally chatting with my friend on my quest

yeah, sure, that works for rift s, but that's still only a fraction of VR. there still needs to be a solution for OpenXR, not just oculus.

You are right! one of the most appealing features is the in-game overlay, that allows usto see Discord messages while we're playing a game. However, this feature doesn't work in VR. This is problematic for two reasons. First, it means that VR users can't take advantage of Discord's in-game overlay feature. Second, and more importantly, it means that VR users can't see Discord messages while they're playing a game. This is a major issue for VR gamers who rely on Discord for communication with their teammates.
Fortunately, there is a solution: Discord can add support for displaying messages in VR. This would be a simple matter of adding a few lines of code to the Discord client. Doing so would make Discord an essential tool for VR gamers and greatly improve the Discord experience for everyone. Reverb0
