Clearing Direct Message Option
I would like to have a option to completely clear direct messages with someone, so that you start from a clean slate so to speak, even if it is only cleared on your side

you could have this done on an interval automatically, have (group) DM pruning and tag more inactive DMs specifically if you want to keep them, etc. just thinking out loud

Would be useful for people who want to keep their accounts super clean but I prefer leaving my DMs open in the list so it's easier to find conversations I have. I don't want to have to search for someones username and discrim each time I want to find their conversation. For me, this wouldn't be useful or needed. However I can see how some users could make use of this for housekeeping like you said. 1 -

I've had this account for half a year and my views and personality changed a lot since I started. I also lost and gained friends. It would be nice to completely delete chat history.2 -
i fully agree i dont feel comfortable having private chats with someone on discord because i cant delete the chat history fully so it can always b used against u in a later stage deleting message 1 by 1 doesn't help

Just fill a RGPD compliance complaint on your local government rgpd website, that will make them move.
They had years to do this and they didn't, they won't unless they get problems.

Sorry if this is already out there, but - if people are saying about it using too many calls to delete them all, then wut? If the coding and such is clean and such, then a simple SQL (if using SQL) call would delete all messages in a channel/DM.
"DELETE FROM channel_messages WHERE channelID = $CHANNELID", if any security to be added then obviously needs doing but this is just a basic example of how easy it could work..
From an example of my own application which I deleted over 1.2 million comments (varying from 1 word to huge paragraphs) and the call of SQL to delete the whole thing with such an above statement took a total of 1.32 seconds. So, not sure if it's viable for Discord to do so but that is there call, just my preview :)

This option should be already there cuz if you were bullied or private information of yours are posted in a dm (which you shouldn't be doing anyways) there should be an option which deletes both peoples chat so they can't find you if you're trying to hide from ppl that know some things that can be revealed to others so you don't need to make another account.

This should be a feature that deletes on all sides. Something like a button "Delete all chat history" that deletes everything or an option like "Automatically delete messages older than X days"

I really appreciate it if there could be a new feature that deleted some messages from dm and chat. It would help avoid reading older messages and arguments in chats or dm

1 and only think I dislike about discord, and 1 and only thing I chose to use a different app for certain people, I don't know of any other messaging service that does not let you delete messages, I find this pretty ridiculous to be honest. so I 100% agree with this.

can one invite YAGPDB.xyz to a DM and use YAGPDB.xyz’s `-clear` function to delete messages from one user?

I feel like this would be a very beneficial way to "clean up" all this junk data accumulating on your account. There are some conversations that I simply don't want to be reminded of when I open someone's chat and scroll up. You know, things I used to say when I was younger, dumber, ignorant, etc. Not to censor myself but just to officially move past it in a way that makes me feel "free". I really hope this becomes a feature someday.

I should be able to set how long I want a chat to stay in my profile. Like delete all messages older than 30 days. If I want to export, and save that convo elsewhere, then that's on me.

Can you please implement this so that it deletes your message history from ever being seen by yourself and others?

Discord, this is a GDPR lawsuit waiting to happen. Allow us to delete our data easily.

CodingDino brings up a great point. Until this feature is added, discord is at a higher risk for GDPR lawsuits.
