Add a way for Nitro Classic subscribers to boost a server
As it is right now, only users who have Discord Nitro (the $10 a month one with games) get any sort of way to boost a server. I think it'd be neat to give Nitro Classic subscribers the ability to boost, too. Giving boosts to Classic subscribers takes away some of the value for the regular Discord Nitro subscription though, so maybe something like this could be implemented: Nitro Classic gives one server boost per month, and the regular Discord Nitro gives two per month.
The number of boosts needed for each tier would definitely need to be adjusted to accommodate something like this, though, since there would be more boosts out there in the wild. In effect though, this would give Classic subscribers 1/2 the boost capability of Nitro subscribers. It'd also be a neat advantage to the regular Nitro subscription since you'd have the capability to boost two servers, even if the boosts contribute a little less to the server levels than they did before.
[EDIT 6/4/19]
With the push of Nitro Boosts to all servers, it's been announced (in a HypeSquad email) that the plan is eventually for users to be able to pay $4.99 a month for an individual server boost. I'm glad that there will be some way for people who are part of Nitro Classic to boost a server, but I'm overall disappointed in the way that it's been carried out.
Pricing a single server boost the same as Nitro Classic itself feels like a punch in the face, considering that buying them both would be the same as buying Nitro Games to start with. That's compounded when you realize that that's $5 for a boost to a single server- if you have multiple communities you'd like to support, you've gotta fork over another $5 every month.
The way this is modeled is not appealing to the everyday user of Discord. Why would you pay $5 a month (a whopping $60 a year) to contribute 1/50 of the way to some flashy rewards for a single server? When server boosting was announced, it seemed like it was a thank-you from Discord to the people who are already paying, but now it just feels like a cashgrab. That's not saying money shouldn't be made, Discord is a business obviously, but server boosts just rip off users in the current system. $1 or $2 a month is reasonable, $5 is not.
-
This would be a good idea because most people usually just have Nitro Classic either because they can't afford the $10 one and/or they don't want the free games. 69 -
Yeah, it's an idea I liked really much. It can be helpful, if you didn't suggest this, I was gonna suggest it. 59 -
I dont understand why they only did it for the $10 sub, but not for the $5 one. Sure, they want ppl to buy the $10 one too, but this was normaly made for the free games they added, while Classic is for chat and cosmetics only. I see so many ppl, who only have the classic one, bc they just dont need the games. Now, when they want to boost a server, they cant, bc they need to pay more. But then in another way, no1 would pay double just to add a boost to a server.
So yea do it like the idea said: Give it to Nitro Classic and double the boosts for those, who pay more.
Also maybe give a little bonus aswell for ppl, who have a yearly sub, like idk, double boosts every 6 months or so
54 -
Discord is trying to push the Nitro($10) to be more recognised since they're getting into making game stores as well, so this is also a way of advertisement for their Nitro. As for your suggestion, I definitely agree. The Nitro($10) can hold much more value than the Classic($5) and this would also involve some fine tuning of the tiers, but either way I'd love to see an option to choose something like this. 44 -
Like stated the system would be simple enough.
Discord said they want to avoid people abusing it? I think we should value the amount of money the members invest and not just devalue those that don't pay the most!
So I think the view on what boost represents should be looked at again. If 50 pay $10 a month and boost a server that means $500 and they want their money put into improving the server they like right? Well if 100 people are paying $5 a month and want to improve their server then it's equivalent the same thing correct?
Solution is simple!
Double the required points for each level
1 : 4
2 : 20
3 : 100
$5 Sub = 1 boost point
$10 Sub = 2 boost point
This way it is completely fair and the boosts are equivalent to 1 point per $539 -
Let people with classic nitro boost servers because of ONE reason:
MAC USERS HAVE NO USE FOR THE GAMES SINCE WE CANT PLAY THEM ANYWAY!
Please let us have this, Discord. Just think about it.38 -
I think the whole boost program is awesome. Unfortunately, I only have the Classic subscription. It be nice if Discord made a compromise where Nitro Classic was given 1 boost for a single server or something similar. I strongly support this suggestion!
Edit: This is also an issue because my Nitro Classic was gifted to me. Meaning if I want the boost for my server I will have to pay the full price again instead of the upgrade price!
23 -
I support this suggestion. Pretty dumb on Discord's part for putting enhanced chat features behind the subscription meant for their games store instead of the one for chatting.
21 -
I believe this is dumb.
Any discord nitro members should be able to upgrade there server to level 3. Or i guess this is just another advantage for big server communities. because screw your personal server with extra features.
EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE EQUAL SERVER CUSTOMIZATION RIGHTS! OR AT LEAST EVERY SINGLE NITRO MEMBER.
21 -
I am also a MacBook User and I have no use for the nitro games...! Please let classic nitro users have the boost!
19 -
I really like this idea, I use mobile discord more than I use Desktop so me paying $10 for just boosting and getting a subscription to get a game service I'll never use seems useless. So I hope this gets added soon!
16 -
I'm goin to have to repost this since I can't wait.
I honestly don't give a care in the world about current or free games so that's why I buy yearly Nitro Classic because I have been using this chatting app literally 24/7 for the past 4 years. I've been asking for more emoji slots since forever and this is the chance for it. Server boosting has completely no correlation to anything related to games so why it is walled off to full Nitro users only when the focus of Nitro Classic is mainly focused for chat perks, which the perks server boosting gives is totally only chat and cosmetic perks.
I also personally think more people will jump from non-Nitro to Classic rather than Classic to Full Nitro too since not everyone plays games but everyone does chat. If you are using this as a way to give more focus to full nitro, this isn't a good way.
Anyways here are some ideas that keep the fact that Full Nitro is still a step above Classic.
Idea 1: Let Classic Nitro users boost a server even if it doesn't count as a full boost. Instead of what OP said for 1 boost and 2 boosts, I think half a boost and full boost might work better. Maybe yearly subscribers should get a better boost as well?
Idea 2: There could also be a different boost bar just for Nitro Classic users that gives only some or splits the perks the Full Nitro boost bar could give.
For example, the Classic Nitro bar only has the +Emoji Slots perk and the Full Nitro bar has everything else.
The Nitro Classic user can only boost the Nitro Classic boosts bar but Full Nitro can boost both.16 -
I think Discord should add a way for us to buy booster. For example, 1 USD for 1 booster, instead of subscribing to Nitro.
(I want to boost my friend's Discord server, but I'm the only person who bought Nitro, that's mean reaching Level 1 or higher is IMPOSSIBLE for us. Plus, I'm a Mac User, WE HAVE NO USE FOR THE GAMES SINCE WE CAN'T PLAY THEM ANYWAY!)
16 -
I strongly agree with this suggestion. Maybe you can give more boosts for those who have nitro games!
13 -
I want server boost added for nitro classic also. I don't need the games, and I just use discord for talking to my friends. Please discord make this possible!
13 -
I have supported the discord for a very long time as a large part of users and feel a little missed.
Tiny communities would also like to have a banner. :(11 -
I think a big issue is that Classic is advertised as Chat options/benefits and Server Boosting seems to fit under that umbrella. As opposed to the full 9.99 /m plan which is extra for the games. I don't think it's totally fair to blindside users with this now, and I hope some response is given soon even if it's a rejection to this suggestion.

I made another Forum Post with this exact text, but with how common the topic is, it might not get approved. So I'm going to put it as a comment here too.
This is to compile what I have seen said about this topic.
How much are Discord Games worth to you? If you're a mobile user, a mac user or a linux user, chances are, they aren't worth a dime. The same goes if you're a windows user who is a console gamer; What is the point of having games if your computer isn't fit to play them?
These people are the type who buy Discord Nitro Classic, to get access to the chat features; The only features of Discord they can use. And many of them agree that the cost isn't completely worth it for what they get. When Server Boosting was announced, people were happy, then disappointed as it was limited to the $9.99 tier; The games tier. Oh, but don't worry, Classic users! I've read that, for a measly sum of $4.99 a month, you too can boost a server!
But wait. Let's do some maths on that. $4.99 for a Nitro Classic subscription, and $4.99 to boost a server, equals $9.98. $0.01 less than the $9.99 tier, which also gets free access to a library of games. At that point, you may as well subscribe to the $9.99 tier.
So it appears Discord agrees with you, Classic users; They too believe that the games aren't worth a dime, they're worth exactly a cent.
Truly a kick to the teeth for Classic users.
--------------
So now that I have that out of my system, some constructiveness.
Nitro Classic, as pretty much everyone has been saying, should get access to Server Boosting. And no, the "Buy a boost for $4.99 a month" isn't a good option; It turned what was a kick to the teeth into a full-on beat-down with a brick.
A common argument I have seen regarding this is that Server Boosting gives CHAT benefits; The benefits that Nitro Classic is advertised for.
Buy allowing server boosts for Classic users, you would actually increase the money coming in, because server boosting isn't going to convince people who didn't want the games to get the $9.99 tier, whether it's because they can't use them, or because they don't want yet another game launcher. But it WOULD convince people to buy the $4.99 version; I know this, because I'm one of these people, and I have seen many others that agree with this.
These are people who didn't see the benefits of Nitro Classic as "enough" to buy it, but who do want the benefits offered by boosting; Namely, better quality audio so that Discord can take over from Teamspeak as the fore-runner of voice applications for gaming, the GOAL that Discord wants to achieve. And while you are a big platform now, Teamspeak is still the preferred option for "serious gamers" who want quality audio for good communication.
Please listen to your audience, Discord. You've done so well so far, it would be a shame for you to mess it up now. We believed that you understood us, but if the "Buy a server boost for $4.99" situation has shown us anything, it's that now you understand our money more than you understand us.11 -
I agree, even if its "just classic" its a paid service and should also be able to boost the server. Perhaps people with the $10 tier can count as "two" boosts and classic can be just one. Either way, classic should have this option built in and its silly/grubby to hide it in the $10 tier.
You gotta look at it this way, a lot of gamers/people have a butt-ton of subs they need to pay for so many things, some might only be able to budget $5 for discord but want to because they use it a lot, they should still be able to boost. It makes sense having the games be part of the $10 tier but at least let Classic boost.
10 -
Yes, please! Make this happen.
I think the individual boosts feature they are supposedly planning is stupid. I get that maybe from a business perspective it is a good idea to make it so only $10 subscribers can boost servers. But realistically, it isn't. Because most people won't bother to pay $5 extra per month to boost a server. If anything, it only reduces the value of the Classic Nitro, making people less intrigued to make any purchase at all.
I suggest making it an option for both subscriptions to use the feature. It will be good for business either way. By allowing both options to use the feature, you increase the value of both subscriptions instead of decreasing the value of classic, and not making any change to the $10 option.
10 -
I believe this suggestion makes sense as the $5 one can be a weaker boost while the $10 can be a more powerful boost as you are essentially paying for more fuel as well. It will also increase purchase rates for both $5 and $10 as some people can't afford $10 but still want to contribute. Basically it's a win-win situation.
9 -
Completely agreed. Classic is the “chat perk” option so that’s why I picked it, I don’t really have any need for the games subscription, and yet this feature is restricted to only the premium tier? Discord wants to make money so that makes sense, but they could have at least added the option for classic users to boost a single server or something like that.
I know they said they're going to add the option for classic subscribers to boost, but it will come at a cost of $4.99 (I believe) which basically takes the price up to the premium tier... so it’s not really a solution.
9 -
I'd like to subscribe to Nitro Classic, I really do, but it is overpriced. When I saw this new NitroBoosts feature, I thought: "now we are talking!", but how disappointing to see that NitroBoost it's only for full prized Nitro users.
Nitro Classic (5 USD / month) is overpriced. NitroBoost is the feature Nitro Classic needs to be on price. I suggest ONE NitroBoost to Nitro Classic users, and TWO to full-Nitro users.
9 -
Yeah, I mean technically boosting a server is a chat perk, so it would make sense if they made it available to Nitro Classic users too. 8 -
This is how it should be imo. Currently, I only have access to nitro boosting because of grandfathered nitro, but once that runs out, I'll lose the ability to boost servers. I have no real need for the games store free games and would rather not pay extra for a feature I will not end up using just to boost a server.
7 -
I have a grandfathered subscription, so it doesn't matter to me personally, but this definitely makes sense. People have already justified it pretty well, but would like to restate that 1. this is a chat perk, and 2. it unfairly punishes people who use OSes besides Windows.
Please at least add a "half-boost".
7 -
In your own article describing the differences between Nitro and Nitro Classic, you describe them as follows: "Nitro Classic offers perks for chat, Nitro includes those same chat perks, with the addition of GAMES". Simple, right? That's what I thought too... And to this day you still advertise it as such.
Do you see our point when Nitro Classic users feel like we were misled? There was no indication, hint or mention whatsoever that a new feature was coming and made exclusive to the highest tier of Nitro. In fact, I would consider "Server Boosting" a perk for chat, rather than GAMES
I support the suggested solution here to give Nitro Classic users 1 boost/month and regular Nitro 2 boosts instead. There are a lot of servers out there, that 1 boost doesn't seem like enough to begin with!
7 -
Yeah. I only know like one person who has the Nitro with all the games. It would be a real let-down if they decided to not let Nitro-Classic boost.
6 -
Yeah I have 1k users in my discord and not one of them wants to double their subscription to give us perks we should already have. Great idea, executed very poorly. Shame on you guys. Do you have any idea how many people you got excited and then disappointed?
6 -
Totally agree. I don't have use for the games since I use Linux and they are not available for this platform.
Heck, if money if what you want let us buy boosts individually.6
