Starting in the foreground is what made me disable autostart for Discord.  Steam, Skype, Telegram, Signal and other messengers start directly to the tray fine - so I tend to use them instead.

This is actually implemented already. You can use the command line argument --start-minimized

I agree with you however, this needs to be an option on the discord UI.

I can confirm it works, but IMHO there should be a silent init too.... AFAIK there is no, just only --start-minimized

    EDIT:

With 'silent mode' i meant that the main window shows for a few seconds in my desktop. They could add a silent start, like Windows' one.

In addition, a GUI button or check that activates de minimized start would be great.

and why isn't there a handy --help list to find these switches? hunting for that just feels so... non-optimal.

It's been more than long enough to FINALLY have a option in settings to stary in try only. NO app should be doing whet discord does on startup.

NOTE: as of at least v0.0.12, the --start-minimized flag has a bug where it hides even the update notification panel. So, if you auto start Discord on OS login with the flag and notice Discord doesn't seem to be running (no tray icon, but the process is in running in BG) it might be because an update is available.

I've submitted a bug report on the Discord Testers channel. EDIT: rejected as "too minor" and "Linux-specific", so I guess that won't be fixed.
