As said by a product manager of Discord on Reddit, "Screensharing into servers was an experimental feature that we are deprecating in favor of Go Live." I really don't support this, and if you want to see that post, go here:
I am a developer, and although I use Discord to stream and play games with my friends, I also use it as a way to communicate with my developers when we're doing something together. I understand that Discord wasn't made or intended for something like this, but it is a very convenient, feature-packed communication program that does a better job than any other screen share alternative out there for myself and my team.
Screen share in servers allowed me to show studios, Chrome, videos, gameplay, and most importantly it allowed me to stream my desktop if I needed to. With the convenience of it being in a server, people could come and go as they please. When we wanted to start a call, it wouldn't alert and annoy everyone else like group DMs do. For both work and casual use, server screen share is very much the way to go for myself, my developers, and my friends.
Around a year ago, I was lucky enough to create a server that had screen share in the voice channels. We absolutely loved this feature and was glad we could get our hands on it. For the last year, we've been using it excessively every day - whether it be for streaming games, streaming videos, or streaming development.
A few days ago, my friend and developer wanted to buy Nitro so that he could stream in 1080 for coding. As soon as he bought Nitro, screen share stopped working in favor for Go Live - and this is a huge issue for us.
Although I could still screen share and he could use Go Live, we could not see each other's stream. Not only this, but if we were to give up screenshare for Go Live, we would have these major issues:
- We would only be able to stream 1 program at a time, which is very inconvenient when you're using multiple programs
- We wouldn't be able to stream our desktop, it has to be a program
- We would be giving up a large amount of functionality
I feel that screen share should be used instead of Go Live in Discord servers, or at least give the option to server owners. Screen share has more functionality / flexibility. It also is consistent with both private DM and group DM screen shares, followed by it lets you stream whatever you like, including your entire desktop, audio on or off.
Please don't ditch this functionality-packed feature myself, my friends, developers and others have used consistently for around a year in favor for a feature that is very limiting in comparison.
