In my opinion, the current tiered server boosting system only serves to steal people's money and enable a toxic server conversation regarding who should remove their boosts until a new milestone is attainable.
To explain, a server with any number of boosts other than 0, 2, 15 or 30 have one or more wasted server boosts.
Wasted server boosts are server boosts which yields a server and all of its' users no value or features. It is in each communities' best financial interest to relinquish any and all wasted server boosts, however, to do so requires the users of the server to be organized and willing to discuss financials. Ultimately the hardest (and potentially toxic) part is deciding which users are chosen to relinquish their boosts, and therefore free up their finances. Or more over, organize an ongoing list of people to supply boosts to create opportunity for rotation between members.
Needless to say, this level of organization and the willingness to discuss financial matters is far and few between and I believe Discord is well aware of this and is in turn abusing it to effectively steal money from users supplying the service with wasted boosts.
I am currently apart of 30 servers, and of those servers:
• There are 323 total server boosts, and 85 (over 26%) of them are wasted boosts
• One server is sitting at exactly 14 boosts and is therefore holding a high level of peer pressure, as currently 85% of the servers' boosts are wasted until the server receives one additional boost.
• One server is at 58 boosts, 28 of which literally serve no purpose. That's $140 that Discord is pocketing due to inaction on both their part, and the communities.
This system needs an overhaul, whether that be a more gradual system that rewards each individual boost, or tools for organizing boosts as never to be wasted. Something needs to give. It's unfair, exploitative, and creates needless opportunity for failure, frustration and/or toxicity in Discord communities.
