Making a better light mode experience.
I was talking with a friend about light mode and wondering why something felt a little off, welp, I encountered that the chat background is full white, literally #FFFFFF, and for some reason it makes it hard on the eyes. For example, YouTube has #F9F9FA as a background on the videos and comments, like in the general section, it is so subtle, but it makes a difference.
Here's an image comparing the two colors:
Every chat app has a different background on light mode, but there is a pattern, they just don't go full black and white.
Discord uses another color while previewing the light mode (#F2F3F5):
A selected message has a nice color (#FAFAFB):
It benefits the custom role colors to be displayed better too, and not with that high of a contrast.
But without the cursor on top of it looks like this:
So it might be better on the eyes, while keeping the light mode touch, if Discord used #F2F3F5 instead of #FFFFFF for their chat background, I know it IS USED on the lateral bar, where the text and voice channels are located; but maybe darken it a little bit, and then, using the same color for the background. Or maybe make the #FFFFFF a little darker without getting the same as #F2F3F5.
Those are my thoughts on how to make light mode better. :D
