Settings Requests for usability
I use Discord web. And honestly with the amount of RAM use and lag I get there there is no way in hell I'd install the desktop version as it will undoubtedly be far worse if it gets to take up as much memory and processor power as it wants as it's own application. it's bloatware and needs to be toned down.
So, I am requesting some settings, both on the web version and the desktop version to make it usable and not laggy to hell.
I have 16 GB ram on this machine and it even lags here. on my other machine with 2GB ram it's mindnumbingly slow. 5 mins to type one sentence in chat. maybe 10 mins on a bad day.
Why? Keylogging. Discord is bloatware and likes to get a copy of what you are typing in chat as you are typing it, not only that it also does this to determine if you are typing so it can show this as a notification to other users "user is typing..."
Settings:
Do not show other users when I am typing On/Off (default Off) (this will stop both the webbrowser discord and the desktop app from sending typed information to the discord server while you are typing yet the characters will still be typed into the message box field. Sending this message still requires communicating with the discord server (this will fix freezing and lag in some browsers))
Do not show when other users are typing on/off (default Off) (this will not show you when other users are typing, the server will not send you this info. You will still recieve their final message when they send it. you will still recieve edits users make to their messages.)
Additional problems, the scrollbar in the webversion has a scrollbar hell problem, where the chat window redraws itself when other sections of messages are loaded. (old messages etc.) causing scrollbar jumping. even using the arrows still triggers this jump as and when you let go and try to scroll again. it typically goes to the oldest messages in the list of loaded messages, even if you are scrolling down! (very counter productive.)
Settings:
Do not adjust or redraw the window while I am scrolling, on/off (you will have to let go of the scrollbar or stop interacting with the page's scrolling before other sections of messages will be loaded)
Do not send my chat's scrollbar info to the discord server until I am done scrolling, on/off
When loading new chat sections, center my scroll on the last message seen on the, (Top/ Bottom)
Do not redraw the window while I am typing, on/off (you will not recieve any chat updates which would require redrawing the window while you are typing (Videos, Gifs, Images, Notifications, files etc.))
Also I've noticed that rather than store alot of this info in the cookie, the web chat is storing it in HTML5 Storage. this is allowing the chat to keylog and spy on other actions in the browser and elsewhere to inform for example other chat users what you are doing.
so 2 settings to fix this:
Where should discord store your local info and settings? (HTML5 Storage (default), Cookie)
Store and send information about other activities I do on my computer outside of discord (on/off) (if off, other users will not be able to see what programs/games/websites you are playing/using and this information will not be sent to discord's server)
Do not track me (Off/On), (if this is on you will only communicate with discord's server when new messages are posted or when you send things to the chat, no other info will be stored or shared with other users or discord.)
