Being able to close/minimize the MAC app without being in the app

ON A MAC It would be great if I could close/minimize the app without actually being in it. I find it a pain when I'm trying to close open app windows and when I get to discord if I don't actually click the window the close/minimize/expand icons don't activate. Every other app I have on my computer I can operate those functions without actually having to activate the window. Hopefully that makes sense lol.
