I can't believe these developers ignore stuff like this. It's one thing to make a non-apology but to just ignore feedback is what kills these sites.

It's not that the Developers are ignore stuff...
And there will always be features and things that Discord will add that people won't like. That's the nature of things, humans don't like Change.

Spamming things like "Change the friend list layout back or we will strike" isn't going to help as it doesn't provide reason for them to change it back to it, just someone rioting without reason.

Looking at the changes done, it uses the width of the page far better than the previous Friend list, and things like the buttons have better visibility.
Being able to see what Friends are playing on a GAMING Application made FOR GAMERs, is why the feature was added.

and that couldn't have been achieved without the unnecessary change? I mean, there's "playing" statuses below the names of users in the "recent contacts" list. They just HAD to dedicate a big chunk out of the friends list tab that takes up the entire screen when there's usually going to be like 1 or 2 of your friends' game statuses in it. Do you think all that negative space is aesthetically presentable? Hell, it looks like a beta design that got reworked because the testers didn't like it.

tl;dr

That reasoning you mentioned is pretty ridiculous. You sound like you'd defend any change this site makes and blame it on the people who don't like change.

Did discord honestly beta test this out before making it "permanent"?
Of course not, because they knew people would hate it so that's why they did it as a surprise, so no one could have said "no keep it the same"
