Can't watch video in Chrome browser app

Hello.

While using Discord in Chrome on my Chromebook it takes a long time to be able to view a video stream that one of the attendees is sharing in a Direct Message group (the DM showing the battlemap), if it shows at all. It will display the circle pattern for a long time, only showing the video intermittently, afterwards going black again. I've tried restarting the tablet & clearing the web cache, but nothing seems to help. I'm using a fast connection (~400Mb/20Mb) so speed isn't the issue. 

I've installed & used the Android app on the Chromebook which consistently works for both audio & video, but the controls are hard to use because they don't remain visible & are hard to bring into focus, making it very difficult to be able to mute or unmute myself. If the video in the webapp would work consistently then I would be very happy using that exclusively.
