I have exactly the same issue on the same mac! It's really annoying and I hope this bug is fixed rather than tossed to the side :( Here's me worrying that discord is gonna do the same thing as sims and stop updates for certain PC's/ Macs

Mine literally did the same last night, and now it's been happening ever since. I also have a 2010 Mac. I've been resorting to using my phone and iPad in order to join voice channels.

Same issue on my 2009 MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan, 10.11.6. Everything is fine until I join a voice channel, the moment after it says "RTC Connecting", the app screen blanks out. It seems to reload indefinitely, sometimes the loading icon and text and sometimes showing the normal app screen for a split second and claiming top-level window priority (it will pop up when I'm looking at other apps).
It stays that way after quitting and re-opening the app. Deleting the discord folder under Library/Application\ Support/discord causes me to me logged out of the app and it will work again until I join a voice channel.
I tried using the console to see if there was anything wrong, the lines just before "crashing" are from [RTCControlSocket], giving responses "[CONNECT]", "[CONNECTED]", "[HELLO]" and "[READY]" before the developer tools window closes on its own and the screen goes blank.
Joining voice channels on the web app on chrome is fine.

Same problem here, i use a mac from 2009, but the same operacional system. When a reinstall it's work just fine, but for a couple hours, after that, the same problem. (Pardon my English, i'am a brasilian guy, trying my best here.)

I'm having exactly the same problem on my 2009 macbook pro. It started happening about a week ago, in-between it shortly worked again, but now I'm stuck with the problem again. Really hope it will be solved soon.

I got the same problem on my MacBook Pro 13" - mid-2010. OS: High Sierra 10.13.6.
Discord is crashing when RTC-Connecting appears.0 -
Hey all, there's a temporary workaround. It's definitely not ideal, but if you go to User Settings > Voice & Video and change the input mode to "Push to talk", you can join voice channels without crashing. You can speak using the push to talk button as well.

I'm on OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6 and have attempted to both uninstall/reinstall Discord.app and adjust the network's DNS and TCP/IP settings to conform to recommendations from Discord to ensure that my device is getting application updates successfully, but the issue persists for me. Immediately upon joining a voice channel, the application crashes. Attempting to relaunch the application results in a split second of the application being up (and I can see that I'm connected into the voice channel, but no one can hear me), but then the app immediately crashes. The app then attempts to launch a second time, I see myself in the voice channel (but, again, no one can hear me), and then, about a second later, the app crashes again.
I attempted to use the workaround of using the "Push to talk" input mode, but, while my app did not crash, other users could not hear me.
Is there any kind of logging that we can provide to Discord to help expedite the resolution to this issue?

Same problem for me in the desktop app in a 2010 Macbook

Ok, i *think* this is something to do with the new beta noise reduction....or at least the workaround of "push to talk" not working is something to do with the beta noise reduction being enabled. I used push to talk instead of voice activity, and that workaround worked...until i enabled the beta noise reduction....now discord instantly gets caught in a crash loop...and i'm not able to remove the beta noise reduction...useless. hope this helps someone.....push to talk workaround works, but not if you ever enable the beta noise reduction.

Trying to disable everything related to the suppression and processing of voice, me and a friend it has worked for us having a Mac 2009 with El Capitan and I with a Macbook Pro 2010 with Catalina, it seems that it is a bug with the new suppression of noise.

Okay, I saw someone’s comment on Voice Processing and tried every option until I narrowed it down to the option called “Advanced Voice Activity”. Turning that off fixes the problem, and you don’t have to switch to push to talk.
