Screen Share In Group Chats / DMs
Although there are already several posts regarding the recent change to screen sharing in group chats and direct message chats, I feel it necessary to recap why the change is seen as such a negative.
While on a server, you can only view one stream at a time (and after this recent change, anytime I personally stream or watch a stream on a server, my voice quality drops severely for unknown reasons!). This was a drawback, as there are often situations where groups of people want to be able to glance at each others' screens quickly. The solution used to be creating a DM group chat with those members and streaming in a private call. However, a recent change has made it so that streaming in such a private call is now an identical process to streaming on a server, where a user can only view one stream at a time (and only when watching a stream in a private call will my voice quality degrade drastically as it did with a server).
There must be some internal reason for this change to have occurred, as there seems to be no benefit from restricting the streaming feature in a private call. In a best case scenario, this change was either an accident, or an attempt at changing something for an unknown reason and can be reverted with the next update. But at the least, I think Discord's users would be very interested in the reason behind this change, and proposed plans to fix the new issue it's caused.

I agree. I hate the change as well. There's not even an option to toggle any of this off. Absolutely poor performance from the discord team.
I can no longer view my screenshare, even in a 1 on 1 DM. It automatically pauses it. It's really annoying. When starting screenshare, they even swapped the "Screen" and "Applications, so now applications are the first ones you see, and you have to click on the next tab to share a desktop/monitor. These do not enhance the user experience, they cripple it.
Something I never expected discord to commit to. All these past updates have done nothing but ruin the experience and UI of discord.
And in a 1 on 1 screenshare, there's 4 boxes? There's the two screens, and simply 2 extra boxes, with both of our names. I have to navitage to the drop down and click "Hide Non-video participants" - despite the fact that only 2 boxes should exist anyways, as it's just me and someone else in a DM.
I have to CLICK on "watch stream" to watch my friends stream. In a 1 on 1 DM. Ridiculous. They need to fire the person who came up with this. The UI has been crippled.
Terrible choices from discord. I expected better.

As in another post I agree that this was a bad move. It has rendered the DM video calls completely useless to me and my students who have been relying heavily on it to hold our virtual classes. It was beautiful the way it was and now we are looking elsewhere to hold our classes until this is resolved. If it never is, we won’t be back.
