I don't know what their goal with this feature is meant to be. Why do we need buttons to replace human interaction?

I also want the waves gone. I understand that some people may like them, and that’s fine, but being given the option for mods to toggle whether they are allowed in a server seems like a good solid option for a middle ground, if Discord is insistent on having them. I don’t like how they break up conversations and I find them distracting and easily spammed by trolls or overly enthusiastic people.

Please, can we have a feature to turn these animated waves off?? These animated stickers are super disruptive to the flow of conversation and are incredibly visually distracting! As well, the stickers have *nothing* to do thematically with our community and so are a completely miss the mark for what they are intended.

As someone who is not "neuro typical" these kinds of /s features /s are not enjoyable. They cause discomfort and make servers unusable for us and folx like us.
Please give users a way to disable this "feature".

Oh definitely me too...  the WAVE is SO annoying...  a member replied by clicking and then we have to be distracted by something bouncing around in the main room....  some way to shut it off...   AND a way to just have one basic new visitor message instead of dumb-ass ones like "hope you brought pizza"...  Geeze

I don't know what the designer of this feature was smoking or why they though that flooding the main channel of a server with nauseating, seizure inducing, animated flashing gifs that are obnoxious looking and 10x the amount of screen space as a single line of text was a good idea!

    REMOVE THIS ABOMINATION NOW!

I would like to add onto this request to remove them! Not only for the reasons already mentions but it generally lags computers by adding to processing power. And they are UGLY. All these new features people think are so great are reducing the ability of older computers to run discord too.

I think people above wrote enough reasons for to make this a thing. Please, do it.

    Yup! Enough is enough.

These are childish Discord reactions. IMHO

It's already a thing. Finally i saw them properly react to community feedback.

Yup, I just went to hide that channel and saw that option. I haven't been able to test it yet though. Waiting on someone to join. I guess that shows you how much they pay attention to this support forum though if they don't come on here and tell us what they did.

You don't have to wait for anyone to join, this setting applies to previous messages as well.

But yeah, they mostly don't give a flying f about it, especially about 3 years+ old requests that are really upvoted.

Ok, since they aren't reversing this garbage, going to have to start working on hiding and muting the join channels. which is unfortunate because new people are far far less likely to be welcomed to the server.

That option is not working. I turned it off and today it's turned back on and it won't let me turn it off now.

    This is ridiculous

The same thing happened to me.  I logged in on my phone, and the option was suddenly enabled, and then when I went back to the desktop, it was still on.
I found that when I turned the option off, it wouldn't save so I had to switch another setting at the same time, and then it saved.  Then I was able to put the other setting back to what it was in the first place, and the wave option stayed saved properly.
I filed a bug report about it, but then couldn't reproduce it.  It's a very broken setting clearly.

There needs to be a way for a user to mute all the waves.   Its distracting to a channel - in some times 90% of the messages are people connecting and other people waving. Its pointless.

I muted a server (and even stopped consulting the, sometimes useful chat) due to this stupid flood of "waves to xaxaxa" w/ ugly animated images.

And today, once again, just because I accepted a friend, here's what I see... (animated, of course)

Please, give us some way of using the software without such noise.

Communication is something hard enough without this kind of things.
