Ephemeral Messages for Admins/Mods
The ephemeral message is a nice touch in the new discord update, but I feel like it has so much more potential than being limited to discord bots and community announcements (and discord personal bots).
I was thinking maybe adding permissions for admins and moderators (or in specific roles) to be able to view ephemeral messages and send one.
- View Ephemeral Messages
- Send Ephemeral Messages
This can be used when lightly warning someone who’s skirting a bit on the rules without publicly humiliating them. Sometimes users disable DMs for non-friends and this can be a bother when MODs need to DM someone.
A good solution for this is using the warning feature of Carlbot, MEE6 and/or other bots.
But in this case the format for the DMed message is to notify the user that they are being warned, and as a moderator I think warnings are only used for severe rule breaking cases, so reminding someone to tone down a bit using warnings are a bit harsh – and sometimes this scare off members when they receive one.
So yes, ephemeral messages to warn someone in the server/channel directly without having to go through the trouble of adding someone just to DM them (sometimes people just leave the server because a friend request from a MOD is intimidating) or warning and scaring them off before you can explain, that’s about all the reasons I can list to have these features.
Anyways, this is just a suggestion I personally think many will benefit from. No harm done if anyone thinks this is unnecessary.
