More Social Media Features for enhancing user connections with each other
So, Facebook has Facebook messenger, right? I think Discord should do the reverse; it has a strong messenger platform that many people of different use cases use. It would awesome if Discord implemented a simple social media platform (devs don't get mad at me I mean simple relative to others I understand it's not literally simple).
It can be something similar to Tumblr/Twitter where every user has their own page/blog thing that just has a big vertical line of posts. I'm thinking that you could click on a user's profile on, and depending on their privacy settings, you can view their personal page and learn more about them as a person. This would give random users on servers more to go off of on each other and would help people more easily form genuine connections and help deal with the problem of large servers having users that don't really know much about each other because there's just too many people to talk to. With this, you can quickly get a feel of someone and feel more connected to a community.
Imagine a home page that your discord defaults to when its opened, containing unread server messages and DM's, and posts from your friends on their personal page.
Why use this over any other platform? Because, in my humble opinion, Discord's UI is just better, and it already has attracted enough users to be an active social media platform (if you wouldn't already call it one obviously). I think Discord's personal-communication-first approach gives it a unique angle in comparison to other platforms, because people on Discord actually feel connected with each other. There are numerous studies showing how isolated people feel on other social platforms because of the weird vibe of connected but not really that everyone feels using them. Discord is different.
