HIWD (Hardware ban)
Hello guys 😀
As server moderators/administrators, We have a duty to protect our servers from bad actors, this job is done by sanctioning or banning users who break server rules after a certain amount of times, but we can't do our job when users are evading our server bans, I can speak for all of the server moderators/staff that this is the most frustrating part of moderation.
We did recently get really good moderation tools but one bigger issue there is for big servers are users evading their ban.
Bans are supposed to prevent certain users who break the server rules from joining servers. But these days it is super easy to bypass those bans just by creating new accounts using a new IP address.
The current system that we have banned the accounts and their IP's from joining the banned server but it's easily bypassable for technical knowledged users. hens making this system not very reliable.
I suggest adding HIWD (Hardware ban)
How dos this work?
When a user gets banned discord servers can store HWIDs (Hardware identifier id) of that user and use that HWID database to compare if a new account is attempting to join the server and if the HWIDs match, the user will be blacklisted from joining the server.
I understand that this method is not a foolproof way of stopping ban evasion but this may be one of the ways that can improve server security and decrease the number of users evading. If this will be implemented it's going to be very helpful for large community servers where the staff can't keep eyes on every account that join the server.
I presume that HWID won't work on certain devices like mobile or mac, I'm not sure but a large portion of discord users are using PCs so this comes in handy

Any hardware info needs to be hidden for other users tho, so if discord implements this it needs to be a "custom layer" over hardware info from that user. I don't want people to know about my specific equipment, networking etc. I don't want a bigger risk of negative scenarios. But I do support your suggestion that we need better ways to blacklist users. Not just for their specific account. If discord were to implement this I am sure it would be a secure variant, so I support your idea. +up
