The ability to hide/disable features I don't frequently use (e.g., the gift Nitro shortcut, call button, etc.)
In addition to my complaints re: the UI in the "Accessibility" category, I'd like to make a new post addressing something that's been on my mind. (Note: While I have a PC, I'm writing as someone who mainly uses the mobile app).
Lately, I feel like Discord has been getting more feature-heavy in general—and I want to be able to clean up my experience.
Here's a list of stuff I'd like to have the freedom to hide/disable by choice:
---
THE GIFT SHORTCUT:
The Nitro gift button next to the message bar feels completely unnecessary (sure, it was added a good while ago, but I only just found out about the Feedback forums and I'm airing out all my woes here). Nobody is playing "glucose guardian" and mass-buying Nitro for everybody—just leave it where it is in the account menu, under Billing and Server Boost (do note that I'm speaking as someone who actually *bought* Nitro for a friend recently). Not everything needs a shortcut.
THE WELCOME STICKERS:
I hit the automatic Wumpus welcome stickers that show up in DMs for one (1) purpose: to make the prompt go away. I'd rather say hi and give a personalized greeting with an emoji. And, if I'm gonna be honest? I don't want someone to greet me with Wumpus (sorry Wumpus!).
Like, don't get me wrong—Wumpus is ADORABLE—but actually using that sticker is pretty much the equivalent of saying "Hi!" in someone's DMs, and waiting before saying why you're actually there. It's cute, but I find it awkward asf, so I'd like the freedom to disable the prompt under Text & Images. Someone can use it on me if they want, but *I* don't want to be prompted to use it.
THE CALL BUTTON (DMs, not server VC):
This isn't a new feature *at all* (lol), but while we're at it I'd like to have the option to disable or hide the "call" button (I'm always nervous I'll tap it by accident when I'm just trying to check somebody's roles)—similar to how we can choose to disable messages from non-friends, or people we don't share a server with. Making and receiving a call is a mutual thing, not unlike getting a DM - so we should be able to have separate settings like that but related to DM calls. (Emphasis on separate. I want to get DMs from members I share a server with; but I don't want my friends to accidentally call me, and I don't want to accidentally call them.)
(Server VCs are a different case; I don't want disabling DM calls to mess with my ability to join calls in a server. For comparison: think abt how chatting with someone in a server is one thing, and receiving a DM from them is another thing!).
On the flip side, a feature I absolutely ADORE is the ability to hide muted channels. The sentiment behind this is similar. Please take it into consideration! 🙏
OTHER:
While we're at it, I want to be able to put group DM chats in folders. I have some old ones from an RP group I was in, and I want to preserve the contents for the sake of nostalgia but I don't want them cluttering up my DMs.
Also: please let me hide the new prompt that pops up suggesting I check out another channel. In most cases, I've already caught up on said channel so there is nothing new to read. If I wanted to check out a read (or unread!) channel, I'd just navigate there myself. (*Rattles the gates*) Let me turn it off!!
---
TLDR; Letting people turn features off & hide them is a clean, unobtrusive way for someone to customize their app to reflect their own needs without interfering with somebody else's experience.
