[Forums] Templates and Indexing
Two great features that could make the forum channels in community servers even better:
- A template system. I know this is already mentioned here, but I think that currently having to have bots to make templates (and you're only allowed one AFAIK) isn't very user-friendly and I personally think is over-complicated. In my opinion, there should be a built-in interface to create templates and post threads in forum channels using them. I think it would be great if server moderators ((i.e. users with a permission to create templates) could create templates for when users want to post forum posts, to standardize it. Templates would basically consist of a pre-defined format; Users would be shown sections to type in, much like a form. Those sections could then be parsed into a pre-defined format. Maybe even variables could be used when creating the format (e.g. {section1}, {title}, etc.) A great example of what I'm talking about would be GitHub's Issues Template system. Even if discord had a system for templates that mimics GitHub's, that would be perfect.
- Forum Post Indexing. It would be great if forums were simply given a number automatically (i.e. #1 for the first post in a forums channel, #2 for the second etc.). Ideally these could be used to reference said posts (e.g. #forum#1 or something), or maybe even in the links (so instead of the channel link for a post containing a long channel number, it can just contain the post number instead). But even without being able to use the post numbers as references, just having a number attached to all forum posts in a channel would be extremely useful. I also think that if a forum post is deleted, the number should still stay there (as opposed to reusing the number) and links to it should maybe just say "this post has been deleted". Similarly, a good example of this entire concept is GitHub's issue numbering.
