New Typeface is more difficult to read
Hey Discord Team!
First, congratulations on launching a new typeface. It is something that takes time to make from scratch, and understand the move from a licensing perspective!
I hope that this doesn't feel like it's feedback against changing the typeface because "ew, new thing bad." Rather, after using the app for awhile, I wanted to share feedback that I think there is still space to improve.
The typeface is rendering a lot thinner on my desktop, compared to the previous font. I use Discord without modifying the zoom levels (just slapped CTRL+0 to reconfirm).
On my Macbook where there's a really high screen resolution and pixel density, the typeface is fine to read. However, on my gaming PC, I use a 1080p 244hz Monitor, and the pixels are less dense. The font feels exceptionally thin, and around the edges where it's trying to alias, you can see echos of reds/blues/greens.
Overall, this makes it really difficult to stare at the font for a long period of time, and makes recognition of the characters more difficult as well. When bolding the typeface, it's a lot easier to read, however the counters (the space within letters, like the hole inside of an e) start to get really closed and hard to read.
I'm left wishing for a version of GG Sans that has a slightly thicker weight, or at least is a bit wider per character.
I hope that you consider this feedback as you continue to work out the kinks and bugs that come with it's launch. Good luck, and looking forward to future changes.
