Send request to user to join voice channel - New Feature Request
Hello Discord team and community,
A friend and I recently developed an idea for a new potential feature. We were on a game, and noticed another friend on the game we wanted to invite to play with us. We sent in our company chat a message, that he did not see due to the speed of chat in his area. We could ping him on our discord server, or send him a DM, but our idea was to lower the amount of steps there.
New Feature: Request to Join Voice Channel
This would be a new option in the right click context menu for members of a server. Either next to call, or possibly as a sub menu, this would function pretty much exactly like calling someone (for the receiving user), with the ringtone and modal to see who is calling. Only, instead of saying "Incoming Call..." It would say "invites you to join {{channel_name}}", and the call button would load you into the channel you're currently in. If there's a modal for the person calling while the invitation is pending or not isn't important for me, that's up to the BAs/PMs. With no modal, the invitation would probably need to auto-expire after a certain amount of time. A notification of a decline or timeout isnt necessary, but could be handled through those server messages that only appear to you?
I would expect any possible existing anti-spam protections for calls could also be applied to this, along with the requirement of already being able to move users into that channel for you to be able to invite them.
Thank you for you time and consideration.

Brrruuuh. Please check all the discord features before thinking of a 'suggestion' that already exists. 😆
Right-click on a voice channel of your choice, select invite people, edit the invite link (number of uses and expiration date), and send it to whoever you want and they'll join instantly after clicking it.
It basically creates a link for anyone from anywhere to directly join the voice channel.-9 -
Hey there, thank you for the response.
I've already checked out that feature, and it is not quite what I am looking for. The already existing 'invite people' option only allows you to select people that do not already have access to the voice channel. This can be via not being on the server, or just not having permissions for that channel. I had checked this quickly when I created this post, and just re-confirmed it now as well.
The feature I am looking for is specifically for people that are already on the server, and already have access to that channel. I would just simply like them to join, without clogging up our DMs, or sending a missable message in another system like the game we are playing.
A possible implementation of this request would be to simply expand this feature to people on the server, perhaps just changing the 'invite' button to say 'join' or something similar to note the difference between a whole server invitation, and just a request to join the voice channel.

I thought about the exact same idea!
Maybe you can drag and drop a user to a channel and they get the call.
But there need to be a system in the role managment where you can set the permission for speciffic groups to start such a call. If not it willl be kind of problematic on public servers.

My work group from university and I found ourselves in a situation where we use a group chat for calling but the server for anything else (like general chatting, memes, links, sharing work & co), this is relly annoying and a feature like "call into voice channel" would be perfect for us.
Please add ^^

I also feel like that that would be an awesome addition. It would make so many things much easier and the overall quality of life would be a lot better. I also feel like that that wouldn't be so much of an effort for the Discord Devs to develope, since all they need is basically already there.
Very good idea, 10/106
