Desktop cannot detect inactivity with gaming peripheral plugged in
TLDR: I wasn't getting mobile notifications because I had a controller plugged into my computer and this prevented discord from detecting me as inactive.
So my morning ritual is to wake up and check what is inevitably an onslaught of discord messages from my guildies. I was surprised to find one morning that I had no notifications on my phone as I had done this ritual for years and I sleep in so there is always something happening by the time I get up. Turns out when I open the app that there was plenty happening but I had no notifications. I struggled through for a bit and tried a little diagnositic work on my end before I reached out to support and they helped me realize that discord was detecting me as active on my computer. Given that I was sleeping, I was clearly not active so this was a little weird and support only gave me the fix of closing discord completely each night. This was alright for having notifications when I woke up but I was missing messages from my friends while cooking dinners or when I left my computer because I am just not in a habit of fully closing discord. I want it open. I did some googling now that I know its an inactivity thread and buried in a reddit thread on the topic I found that one other user had a steering wheel plugged into their computer and their girl friend had a ps4 controller and both of them experienced the problem I was describing and when they unplugged these peripherals, they began receiving messages. I was disappointed because I don't really do racing games and figured this wasn't a fix for my problem as I am mostly playing mouse and keyboard games these days. Then I looked over to my side and saw my Switch pro controller. I had plugged it in a couple weeks ago to charge it and I have a USB C port on my computer. I hadn't considered it because I wasn't even using it for gaming. I just had it there charging, but sure enough, when I unplugged it, I had notifications on my phone as soon as the minute of inactivity had passed. So I forwarded this information onto the support team, but they also recommended I share it with you all as well since you read and listen to comments here frequently. I hope that you will notice this and look into fixing it so everyone can have their messages show up even if they were playing Jedi Fallen Order and have an Xbox controller plugged in or want to play some Switch later, but still want to receive messages. Good luck with this one!
