distinguish between urgent and non urgent notifications
in the browser favicon, discord shows the a red circle when something has happened.
I havn't figured out exactly how it works, I've set all my notification settings to mentions/dm only. I still get a red circle when I have the browser tab open. I think it does that when a channel I'm in has new content? I'm not sure. But that's what it maybe seems like. It definitely goes red without me being mentioned.
It would be a lot more useful if it went white, or yellow or orange or something if it's merely some new content, so that I know there is something there, but that I can continue with my current task. A mention or dm should be red, because it's someone that actually needs my response.
And also "@everyone" should be a different color again. I know people who want to notify the entire channel think they have something important to say but it's nearly never something that I need to respond to immediately, just an announcement.
This is an accessibility issue for people who have difficulty focusing (such as adhd)

I don't use favicon, but I know that on Chrome, the difference between people talking on a server and getting a ping (a mention/DM) is that the red circle will have a number in it for pings. The number represents the number of pings.
I still think this could be a good idea, though, because sometimes I mistake the red circle for a ping at first glance, especially if I'm waiting for a reply from someone.
Also, I agree with the @ everyone thing for the same reasons. I know that a few servers have roles that they use instead of @ everyone, so it would be nice if there were an option to allow certain roles to be treated the same way.

oh that makes sense! I thought the red meant notification because it that's how it is in every other app
