Mute forum threads without joining

I would like for there to be a way to mute a forum thread without joining it. I don't constantly want to have unread notifications for every forum thread I'm not in, but I don't want to have to mute the entire forum to allow this. It would be cool if there was a setting or something to say “don't give unread notifications from threads I haven't joined” or something like that, or at the very least make it so muting un-joined threads actually works.

    I login to the server and immediately disable all notifications. So as not to make a sound. And I'm only interested in some channels on this server. So that when I login, I would like to see red notifications only on the channels I need, but I get red notifications on all channels and also mentions. How can I make sure that on one server I can leave red notifications without sound only on individual channels?
