New desktop layout takes up too much room

Heyy, so as the title mentions, the new layout takes up too much room. More specifically, the bar at the top of the screen, where the inbox and help buttons were moved. Now it wouldn't be that big of a problem if I were using a normal sized monitor, but in my case, my setup is a Steam Deck I'm using as a computer and a monitor connected to it. I use the big monitor for gaming (and if I really need to read something on my browser) and the small Steam Deck monitor (genuinely its so tiny) for my browser (youtube, discord, all that). And with the new layout, that giant bar at the top of the screen is taking a sizeable chunk of the already limited room away from me. 

Can't exactly increase font size since then every message becomes massive and if i make everything small then I can't read anything. So have to choose either, which aren't optimal. Maybe make the sidebar on left also a little bit smaller. Thanks
