Yes. I hate the links just opening up in Microsoft Edge when I use Google Chrome to do most things. Someone make this in the next update.

Yes can we please have this ability. If I just don't install another browser, it seems to work fine but I can only go a few days it seems without needing another one or two for work and school. I absolutely do not want cdn links opening in bloated chromium every single time it could just open in qutebrowser or something less bloated. How hard is it to just implement something small like this? It literally works fine until I install a different browser alongside my primary one.

    Oh please +1

I use Chrome for personal stuff and Edge for work. What Psylem wrote is the exact workflow I go through EVERY TIME. Send help!

This is the main problem I have with Discord. Every time I want to open a link or an attachment I have to manually copy it and open in Firefox because Chrome is my default browser (and I use it for a different workflow). This is incredibly annoying. Most other apps I use that rely on an external browser to open and download attachments allow you to select the browser in their settings. You should at least prompt the user, letting them know this will open the file in their default browser, not do it automatically! This needs to be fixed.

I'd prefer a solution for the app, but one work around is running your personal discord directly in the browser you want to use and links will open in the same browser.

So, I'm on Windows 11, and running the latest discord client for Windows.  I have an app called Browser Chooser that allows me to pick whichever browser / browser profile I want to open any links that I click on in just about any other app.  It works exactly as I want it to, to separate my links based upon whichever job I'm using it for, whichever personal account, etc.  This app should allow many of the users above to do exactly what they want.  For those interested, browserchooser2 DOT com is where you get it from.

However, the Discord client always opens links in one particular browser profile instead of using my default setting in Windows 11.  It's not even based upon which browser I last clicked on - I have Firefox, Firefox Nightly, 2 Chrome profiles, and 4 Edge (Chromium) profiles, plus Edge Beta, Developer and Canary, and even Brave, Brave beta, and nightly.  But Discord forces the link to open in one very specific Edge profile, which is, for all intents and purposes, a test profile I've made (and the newest profile I've made on the system).

It's not a problem in every other program - I click links and they open BC, which let's me manually pick the browser / profile I want and I'm off an running.  It's only the Discord client that opens directly into a browser instead of honoring the default app setting.  So, naturally, I, too, have to use the work around similar to what Psylem posted 8 years ago - and this topic has been open for 3+ years with (seemingly) 0 response from the devs.

It'd be great if there was a simple setting allowing users to either 1) pick a default browser for Discord links, or 2) allow users to use the default app settings directly from Windows - which is what apps should be doing anyway.

    The really weird part, though?

I have multiple (2, to be specific) logins, so I run 2 Discord clients on my machine - 1 is the default, regular client, which I use for work (this one that I'm complaining about) and the other account is running on the Public Test Build (PTB) version of discord, so I can run them simultaneously.  The PTB opens Browser Chooser when I click on links.  The main client does not.

NKYadav it works for me with BrowserSelector (from the Microsoft Store) or with Browser Chooser 2.

In retrospect, I probably should have waited until after I cleanly installed everything before making a report.  After a clean install of Windows 11, both the regular and PTB installs are directing links to BrowserChooser2, as they should be.

Thanks for the reply, Adelscott, inspiring me to dig deeper and really see what was going on.

Also, thanks for mentioning Browser Selector (I never thought there was another product similar to BC, so definitely gonna check it out).

It seems many years later they didn't implement this easy function. They are stubborn as other big companies it seems. The performance of the application will not hit the bottom if it is implemented.

I hope they will implement soon. It is annoying that all links are going to the default web browser. I am using Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Brave because of web development but for personal usage I am using Firefox. I would like to open the links which shared on the Discord in Edge instead.

They would have easy task to list the installed web browsers and then just the user would select. We will see how many years takes to implement such small function but useful one.

+1 I'd like to request the ability to select which browser to open links with. We live in 2022... we have multiple browsers for different tasks. Edge for some things, Brave/Chrome for some others, and Firefox for others. Let us select which browser we want to use for opening links in Discord!!

I'd also like to see us able to set if it opens in work or personal chrome profiles because I've opened too many links in the wrong profile.

Dear Discord, this request has been open for 4 years with many people requesting it. This is a small/easy improvement on your side (I am myself a dev), but it is extremely helpful for the users (we need our work-related browser vs. freetime-related browser stuff separated). Can you please implement it? Thank you in advance.

Same request I like to use Google Chrome for work and Safari for personal browsing I also use Slack for work and Discord for personal so it's not as easy as just setting Safari as my default browser as then when I click links in Slack they wouldn't open in the proper browser. It's annoying to be on Discord click a link say to Instagram and it wants me to sign in on Chrome I end up copy and pasting the hyperlink every time on to Safari but it'd be a hell of a lot easier just to set Discord links to open on Safari
