Overlay compatibility for macOS

Definitely need overlay on Mac OS +1

It is long overdue. My money smells the same as that of a windows user, yes?
1 -
It shouldn't be that difficult since Bill Gates stole the Window GUI from MAC and kept incorporating MAC GUI ideas into Windows.

No entiendo por qué Discord sigue sin añadir la superposición a MAC. Yo justo tuve que pasarme a mac porque tenía problemas en windows.
No sé si se puede enviar algún mensaje "masivo" a Discord.

Just one more voice clamoring with hope for a Discord overlay for Mac users. We're out here ....

And another voice. do we even know if it's on the roadmap yet? in development? anything?

Hi, Mac & Windows user here, I'd love to have that feature on both platform

now that schools use discord for classes overlay would be even more appreciated... so we can play league instead of algebra
4 -
A mac overlay would be very helpful for me and my friends.

I agree with this. I like using my 27" iMac and I play League of Legends so nothing hardcore. I used to game on PC and use Windows but personally I hate Windows now and where it's going which is why I have a Mac. If you could add an overlay to MacOS that would be excellent.

I'm waiting for overlay in discord for Mac, just that... As a lot of peoples
Plase I hope you think about that
3 -
Especially galling now that we all have to spend a lot more time inside at home... face it, we are NEVER EVER going to see this happening... discord itself can't even be bothered to tell us to frak off... which is exactly what is going on. I'd delete it in an instant if many of the communities I belong to would stop using it, as well as many add-on authors.

One way to make it happen would be to collaborate on an open-source project that replaces Discord, and give it a functional overlay for Mac. This way, Discord must implement it themselves, or lose market share in the Mac market.

Thing is, there is a very good voice system that has an overlay of users on any platform. AND it has a kinda cool feature where game audio gets muted when someone keys their mic. I speak about the blizz voice system. Only thing I am not sure of is if one has the game not running but the battlenet app running, are you still connected (meaning the system goes through battlenet, not the in-game client). I raided with a team for a while that used the blizz voice... one of its "features" is that nobody can join in the voice who isn't in the group, something that can easily happen in discord. The problem arises when one is forced to only use Discord for voice... like I said, I doubt we will EVER see that overlay on the macOS side.
We may be small, but we are significant... did you know that the person who wrote and maintains DBM is a mac user?0 -
IT been A YEARRRRRRR BRUH
or two

Didn't realize that Mac users didn't have this function...
I just tried to stream a game for my friends, and had no sound. Wasn't fun to discover. Was super disappointing. Especially since I'm immune-compromised, have been in the house for over a month, and just wanted to share something that made me happy. Half of the enjoyment of the game I wanted to share is the beautiful music. I couldn't share that with people I care about.
Please, please consider adding this feature for Mac users. Even if not for gaming. Artists like to play music while they draw and stream for friends too.

Is it even possible to overlay anything onto typical fullscreen games on Mac? (They take over the video display in a more complete way than on Windows.) As far as I know, Steam can only manage it because Steam controls the launching of the executable. Without giving Discord similar control, do we even know if this is a thing that is possible on macOS?

@Frungi yes it is TeamViewer do it, you can finely tune app permission on last version of macOS

You launch Stream, you launch Discord, much the same. No idea if Stream also launches a daemon at the same time the app launches, but Discord could as well. But I know an overlay works for the in-game voice and it used to work in Mumble... until a rev to it removed that ability.
Like I have said previously, except for voice when the game is NOT running, the in-game is much better, you get the overlay AND it auto-mutes the games sounds when anyone keys their mic open.
At this point my bet is that with such major changes in how the OS does and doesn't work (like removal of kexts) means a dev has to keep re-writing their code to keep up... and some simply will never put themselves in that position. They don't have to go through that dance for the dark side (win10). IMO0 -
There definitely needs to be a Mac Overlay or there's no point in using discord ... seriously

Please add overlay for MacOS! Or enable How many people need to request this for how many years until this is added?
Most gamers that use Disc in large groups need this as a core feature, its integral to communication, so I can see quickly without being distracted by having to glance at a second screen to know who is speaking and lose focus.

Was looking for this as well. Bit annoying that the feature is missing I'm a wow player and had have beens since it was released all that time I've played on macOS without issue. Since most everyone has moved to discord it would be great to get this added. even an add-on that plugs into discord would do.

so over 2 years and still no overlay?
