allow the api of bots to edit messages from users, in this way the moderation bots can filter inappropriate words without eliminating the message

  That could be wildly abused to make anyone say anything. Message authenticity would become a joke.

  Unless Discord would introduce a censoring API which only blanks out parts visibly. This would be bound to anger a lot of users though. Not good for PR.
