How discontinuing the Bot Developer badge hurts programmers on that platform
As I imagine you know, it will no longer be possible to receive the bot developer badge verified in your profile, just a check mark next to your bot's name.
Many people out there say that it was good, because now there will only be programmers left who truly want to create a bot that helps the community. However, I disagree with that.
I've been programming bots for a few years now and always wanted to be recognized for that. I was discouraged at first because I believed it would not be possible, but when I heard about the existence of this badge, I decided to go ahead.
Hardly after practically a year, I got the necessary requirements to have my application verified, and on learning that the badge was not going to be delivered, I was extremely disappointed.
It was hours and hours spent in front of the computer trying to program increasingly practical and usable systems and functions, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one to do that.
Receiving a medal on my profile would give more visibility to all my months effort, and I believe that just a verified checkmark next to the name of my bot would not bring the recognition that not only me, but everyone who helped me in this project deserve to have.
There are still several other possibilities that you can take, many people out there must be programming in the desire to receive the badge without even knowing that it will no longer be delivered. At least give us a date so that those who program because they really like it can have a chance to receive it.
I know that during all this time several people have obtained the badge fraudulently, but that is not enough reason to harm most of the little known programmers of the Discord. Think of a solution that benefits us in some way, that is an increase in requirements or a more cautious verification process.
I just ask that Discord take a better position on this, many people were dedicated to programming in search of recognition, which in this case was this badge, and remove it without any notice to all users who have applications created in the Developers tab is very wrong.
I respect the decision made, I really like Discord and the excellent work that is done on it, but I think that was a mistake and that it could be rethought by you.

Thanks for the comments, I hope that a member of the Discord team can read this post.0 -
Yep I 100% agree the badge should go. At least they could've announced it prior. All I request em is that they increase the deadline at least till their big update in October.

Announcing it prior would've created a massive surge in applicants - basically congesting their queue even more than it its now. Also, people who want the badge would attempt to find fraudulent ways to do it in order to obtain something that is now seen as 'limited edition' in their eyes. It would've created too many issues.

Discontinuing the Bot Dev badge is not the worst thing, the actual worst thing is you give your ID, one of the most important things of your life that can also destroy your life in bad hands to make your bot grow more.
Not hard to verify if the bot dev has more than x months/years on Discord and then block or allow him to continue or do another way to verify.1 -
Sam*, It's a good point of view, but I think it would be worth the risk. A prior announcement would make people who really want to receive the badge to run after it. The day they removed it was announced only on a closed Discord server, where not all of the programmers are in (like me), I'm sure that many bot creators are still unaware of the removal of badge.
