Introducing Softban
How about an option to "Softban" users by making their messages invisible for everyone but visible to all softbanned users and users with softban privileges which would be an toggled role option, useful for moderators and admins.
This is an attempt at stopping two major things:
- Automated spam: spambots will be less likely to know they are softbanned, thus decreasing the likelihood that a bot will drop the token and restart the spam with a new one.
- Manual Spam content: People who won't know they are softbanned will be less likely to create a new account uppon ban to continue their behaviour.
Added Measures:
For automated spambots it can be easy to tell they are banned if they are programmed to detect when another spam account's message isn't appearing. This can be solved more easily via the implementation of softban by Discord Bots with anti-raiding features.
For this to work I'm suggesting implementing a softban queue to the discord api.
Instead of immediately banning all accounts they would add the accounts for a softban queue that can be triggered at any point softbanning all the users in bulk. This, while not instant, makes it less likely for spam accounts to notice other spam accounts' messages not appearing.

Stopping annoying bots is good, but being a human on the receiving end of that seems really frustrating to me.

I would prefer softban to be an literal /ban + delete messages 7 days followed by an unban which makes it a kick with 7 day message deletions.
