False Disabling accounts for age limit (Flawed system)
Introduction
I never once in my lifetime thought I would have this problem considering I am well above the age limit stated in Discord's TOS. However to my suprise I found my own account disabled for being under the age limit. You may never think this will happen to you, neither did I.
The issue:
You will not be given a warning, you will not be given a chance to prove to discord that you are above the age of 13. Your account will be disabled and you won't have a chance to prove the reports made against your account wrong. This allows for false disabling of discord accounts, perhaps one day it will be your account.
They state that you should fill out a forms on their support page, the only issue is that since your account is disabled you cannot log into the support page using that account. Then if you try to make a form using another discord account they will tell you to fill out the form using the disabled account...
The other choice you have is emailing them, which is far slower.
Neither do they grant you a fast way to regain the account even if you provide all of the information required, they require you to take a selfie with your ID and discord username and tag. But as stated before, they won't accept it since you haven't filed a form with your disabled account (which you can't login to anyways).
Not only that, they find time to do it on a saturday but they don't find time to deal with your appeal the entire weekend. If you disable someone's account, you should be able to quickly enable the account especially when that user has followed your exact instructions and proved the disabling of the account wrong.
On top of all of this, it makes the discord report system easy to abuse. If a discord account is in a exposed position (being a moderator, administrator or owner of a popular server) then people can easily abuse this system to report that user in order to revoke that accounts access to the server.
The simple solution to a flawed system:
First of all, don't instantly disable people's accounts. Give them a timeframe (1d - 7d) to prove the reports false before disabling their accounts. This way makes it easier and less frustrating for both the user and discord.
Second of all, allow disabled accounts to login to the support page so we do not need to go on a alternate account in order to fill out the forms. However if we do then don't tell us to go on to that disabled account to fill out the forms there since that is not possible.
Third, account appeals should be your highest priority. Having innocent accounts disabled is not good for you and should be dealt with ASAP. I suggest creating another email address that only handles appeals.
Dear Discord
You expect us to prove to you that we are over the age of 13 in your appeals, the only proof you accept is a selfie of the person with a valid ID in that selfie.
Why do you not then require the same amount of proof when you suspect someone is under the age of 13? How could you disable someone's account without the same amount of proof that you require people to appeal with.
A discord message from a discord account that says:
"I'm 12"
Is just as good as proof as:
"I'm 65"
Neither is sufficient proof of someone's age, most likely they are joking in both.
Legal standpoint:
By disabling accounts you are preventing them from accessing their private information on those accounts, you are also preventing them from requesting any information about yourself on those accounts.
- The GDPR introduces a right for individuals to have personal data erased.
- Individuals can make a request for erasure verbally or in writing.
You are preventing users access to some of these functions by disabling their accounts and making them unable to log into their accounts that has not been terminated / had personal data erased.
Neither can you legally prove that a user has broken the TOS by being under the age of 13. Especially when the user is NOT under the age of 13.

I hope to get my main account soon enabled, however discords appeal system seems rather slow. Much slower than their ban system.
By disabling my account, they have also lost a potential customer since I was going to buy nitro as soon as my paycheck was coming in. After this, I'm not so sure about it anymore.
Perhaps this is just an overreaction but it caused me a lot of misfortune this weekend.

The post you have made is very in depth and i do fully agree. Disabled accounts (for age restrictions) should be accessible with partial functionality (Delete Account, Support Page & Billing Access).
And with this restriction should not be able to (Send Messages, Make calls, Change Account Details, etc), if Discord were to implement such functionality the impact of users would be lessened.

I'd very much appreciate a system by where users need to verify their age at account creation. There are a myriad of services that specialize in verifying user identity using ID scans that are heavily regulated by government agencies. It would be nice if Discord were to incorporate that into their registration process.
This would ensure that anyone who registers for an account has a verified date of birth as per government issued ID. This could also be helpful not only for gate-keeping users out of 18+ discord servers but also other servers where there may even be a higher age criteria. Various gaming or community social discords might want it higher than 18+ to keep younger users out.
Then the minimum age could be set by the discord server owner and there would be no need. Age could even be displayed as part of the profile info template without revealing specific DOB info.
An identity verification requirement could potentially also help to eliminate the numerous instances of alt accounts.-2 -
This literally just happened to my friend. They are 15 but apparently were disabled because they were flagged for being under 13. They inputted their age as 15 so I don't know the deal.

I was scrolling to put my year of age for a nsfw channel(swearing not inappropriate stuff) and I was scrolling one day to find my birth year and I accidentally clicked 2010 and my account got disabled and then deleted. This happened to me too, I'm 17 years old and someone just false reported my account as to being underaged... I have the same issue. For some reason my account got disabled, because I'm too young? This is ridiculous, because I'm 19 years old. I woke up this morning with a E-mail saying I'm under 13 years old and that my account has been disabled.
I made a appeal to update my age, but does anyone know how long it take that discord reactivate my account?I really need my account rn. Most of my school lessons and projects are going through Discord. Without my account I can't access my school work and may fail my exams.

My account was disabled 5 days cause apparently i'm under the age of 13… I'm 22 and have a college degree working on a second one. Discord support disabled my account at like 2 in the morning EST timezone. Sent the appeal that morning when I got home from work. Radio silence from support and i'm worried my account is gonna get deleted or something cause it's disabled. I have a lot of things on my discord account for personal use as well as educational and work related use. If discord support could kindly work on restoring my account a tad faster that would be greatly appreciated.

lol With the ongoing account takovers from hacks and stealers, it took two months for me to get my account back, only for the mad brazillian dudes, who I reported to the FBI cyber crime, because they left their own billing information, and a picture ID of themselves in my DMs to someone else. But apparently they'll take the words of some random nobody that wants to steal accounts over a discord nitro user over the coarse of 8 years.

My account has been down for 26 hours now for the same reason. I’m 41 years old and have been paying for Nitro for years. I joked to someone who was asking me how old I was because of a sarcastically juvenile comment I made, and they had the last laugh, it seems.
EDIT: been waiting 4 days now. Zero response. Discord seems not to care about this even if it's affecting paying Nitro customers. I put in a ticket about a technical issue just to see if there would be the same lack of response but sure enough, they responded instantly, but warned me about submitting multiple tickets saying it would send me to the back of the queue, and also said that repeatedly replying to my initial ticket will do the same. Peoples' livelihoods depend on Discord, and this kind of thing can be a crippling disruption of that.

My Account was banned 3-4 days ago. I was texting the support right when i got the mail of my disabled account.
Still no response. I am getting really angry now because I am paying Nitro for this Account…

My account was disabled at random for this same issue a few days ago - I sent in four (FOUR) support tickets, they keep getting marked as “solved” without any email, any message, or any update. I have to reopen them. The support tickets look like I'm literally begging for anyone to read the ticket. Discord is incredibly slow to respond. I've sent them multiple pictures of my ID, me holding my ID, and my ID next to my discord username written on a piece of paper to prove that I am well over the age of 13. Still radio silence.

Sending multiple tickets will make it take longer for this to be resolved. Just update your initial ticket, allow the others to be closed and wait. It may take a week or a bit longer even, and the multiple tickets probably moved you to the back of the line. But they'll get to it.
