Disappointment in NFT/ Crypto Involvement (NFTs from an artist's perspective)

Edit: Decided to go ahead and cancel my nitro now, there's no point in waiting. Discord needs to hear us and our position now, and money talks the loudest.

I've been an avid discord user for five years, I'm very grateful for the app, have thought it's a brilliant site since it's conception, and I eventually made the decision to monetarily support it via nitro and haven't looked back since.

I've had nothing to complain about from the website, till now. I'm sure the environmental issues have been discussed in depth before, so though extremely important, I won't go into them.

Crypto is so rife with fraud, scams, pump and dump schemes, heists, is so deeply unregulated and is in such flux on terms of legality, why does such a reputable company as Discord need to integrate with a service like this? 

I am an artist by career, and have watched first hand over the past year as the NFT system has been used to steal, scam, manipulate, and insult small businesses and artists trying to make a living. Blockchain permanence means stolen work is difficult to take down, anonymity means art fraud is difficult to find the source for. 

I've watched stolen work go for thousands of dollars while artists have had to watch their precious creations being tossed around without consent. I watched a young man publicly mourn and vent as the art created by his recently deceased sister were minted into an NFT against his will, with no regard for him or for her life. I've watched small artists panic because they spent all this money to get their art minted, but now, because they're not already popular enough for their work to hold some intrinsic value due to fame in the eyes of cryptobros, they lose hundreds of dollars and have nothing to show for it but shame. I've watched the online arts community split in two over artists trying to justify aligning with such a terrible system in a desperate attempt to pull themselves out of the starving artist bracket only to find half of their audience has turned on them, and artists decrying it only to find out artists they've admired or work with for years are engaged in this fraud system. It's heartbreaking to watch. Enough. NFTs and their integration is not the right move for discord, or anyone. Not as they are now. 

Should discord go through with the crypto/nft integration, I will cancel my nitro and never financially support this company again. I know my voice and plan are just a drop in a bucket, but I know how many others feel the same. Discord will tank should this integration go through.
