How I See Discord
(long post)
Hey. First off, I'd like to say thank you for always being very dynamic and changing to the times! I'm pretty sure that Discord has gone through a lot, and I'm happy that people are starting to see how much of a great platform it is for people who want to connect to each other. I get it, people do need to start growing out of their shells sooner or later and all.
Buuut... Honestly, I have mixed feelings about the new Discord branding and learning about Nitro and Nitro Classic. Compared to other Discord users, I'm relatively new to the community. I've only started using Discord back in.. 2018, I think? (first Discord account was older) (this is my second account(now my main tho)) And I only saw it as a gaming chatting platform then! LOL.
I don't even know anymore really but that's because I enjoy using it, even when I only had one friend. :) Just this year, I found that Discord always made me happy. Hearing the default Discord tone always put a smile to my face. Seeing the Discord logo pop up never failed to make my entire day. I learned about finding servers too! Even though I'm not as active on servers, I enjoy reading through posts! It was like facebook but... kinder.. more welcoming... it was, personally, healthy. They never gave me panic attacks like facebook would always do. Seeing the UI and Wumpus helps me forget all of the negativity around me. I loved it.
People will not agree with what I'm going to be saying, and I think that's okay! :)
Where do I begin? Clyde. I love Clyde's new design. I loved seeing Clyde's expressions too! Would they be included as a status emoji or something? I don't know. I think that would be cute. :)
The color, I think the color is a little too.. vibrant for me. I agree with some of the people here who want to bring it to the middle "blurple". A blurple that's vibrant but still muted! As one person puts it, "Transition Blurple". That way it would still blend with Discord's classic grey/dark grey design without having to be "in your face". I'm not sure if they'll be giving a "Discord Classic" option for non-paying users as theme options (of course.. the sweet nostalgic blurple) but I think that would be a great option for those who prefer Discord's old designs (overall design). :) Maybe you could give the "extra" personalized ones (like custom palettes) to the Nitro and Nitro Classic subscribers! :)
Next, the font, I personally don't have a problem with it! It's simple, yes. But.. it might have strayed too far from Discord's Classic, but it's fine. :) I kinda like it!
Wumpus. I heard that Wumpus is gone? :( Or was at least... sent to space(twitter) but.. He can't be.. :( Wumpus was one of the reasons why I always ran back to Discord. And I'm sure most users won't be so happy about him/her leaving too. :( I guess this goes the same way with Discord's Quirky Doodle-y design (these were ultra refreshing) The new design looks like an attempt to be relevant in the graphic design scene. It looked.. too... common.. it takes away Discord's uniqueness.. It looked.. typical and flat.. :(
Nitro. Yes I think we can all agree that Nitro and Nitro Classic helps support Discord! And a lot of content makers might find all sorts of cool perks in it! But... Why not just make premium more geared towards... Server and Content Creators, something like an option for those who want to have more personalized servers. I know, Discord has a really big community. And that's the thing. Discord has grown as a company! And people really do appreciate the added stuff provided by Nitro and Nitro Classic but.. Why do you need to lock uploading bigger file sizes (a basic feature among messaging platforms) down inside as a premium feature..? I also heard rumours that themes will only be available for... Nitro and Nitro Classic Subscribers..? Animated Emojis and custom avatar GIFs are fine as premium features, actually, but.. Why take away bigger file sizes away from non-paying users? Why take away the freedom to customize their own Discord apps..? (Remember how I asked whether or not non-paying users would still have the option to choose from the Classics? and suggested that personalized palettes could be given to the subscribers?) I don't know.. not everyone would find the need to buy Nitro and Nitro Classic if all they want are the personalized themes(basing off my suggestion) and the bigger upload sizes.. especially if they're just people who want to gather their friends into one platform without having to compete with other people in their life (e.g. work, school).
Discord, to me, is all about connecting. It's not just your Basic Social Media platform, Discord could be home for people who put so much sentimental value on it. It's a whole lot of something else. That's what makes it beautiful. And limiting what people can do (especially people who rely only on Discord to disconnect from the toxicity of life) is... making it... like.. a pay-to-win kind of thing rather than.. an enjoyable free to play with completely optional paid (and costume-type) features. :(
I know it's selfish but.. I don't want to have to keep going back to sending pictures and videos via Facebook Messenger just because my file size is "too big". (Facebook makes me feel.. extremely uncomfortable..) :(
Other than that, Discord will always hold a spot in my heart, and will continue to. (I'll also always continue using Discord. Probably even when I have kids, I'm dead serious about it.) I just hope they would understand non-paying users like me. :(
Oh and I've heard about Discord's issues on certain... stuff. Please try to limit these to the adults. I'm sure there's a way. Spare the children using the app. :(
Thank you for reading through my loooooooong ass post on how I see Discord (and what Discord is to me) so far. ♡ (if I have grammar errors and typographical errors please excuse me I was too lazy to proofread it.)
