You should give a Proxy settings for the Windows version of Discord to cover Chinese users
You should give a Proxy Setting (HTTP, Socks, whatever) for the Windows version of Discord to cover Chinese users
Chinese users are blocked from discord due to GFW which is the Great Fire Wall.
When I want to use discord now, I must set my VPN to "Global" mode (covered all my apps instead of Discord only), which is interfering my experience on other apps like Games or IM Chat programs.

thank you bakalee , I had been browsed that web, I'm Chinese too.
I can not make certain of that file made by Chinese Communist Party (CCP),so i don't trust that file (version.dll).
I belong to New Federal State of China (NFSC), we are going to take down CCP, and save Chinese people, that file is dangerous for me.

This proxy function has not been added yet, because there is no place to set the proxy address when logging in China, it cannot be started! Because Discord is banned in China, you must use a proxy to log in.

Did you realized the source code of version.dll is hosted on GitHub, which you can compile to .dll with?

-----------------
I'm pretty sure that Discord official never wanted to support proxy, because this feedback has existed for 4 years and has been requested many times by reddit and other communities. The old method (https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/47048247) became invalid after certain official update. It's possible that this was intentionally done. They may change their mind in future though.
There are some assumptions why they didn't want to support proxy.
1. users from China, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Iran, North Korea, and Egypt, did't/won't provide much revenue. These users do not understand or have to comply with U.S. law. They are hard to manage. Supporting them does the company no good.
2. in any popular platform, there will be tons of advertising accounts registered with Chinese IP Addresses. Maybe they don't want to deal with that.
3. because of bilateral relations and trade wars, the US government may restrict Chinese accounts to prevent the spread of political-related speech to its detriment, and it is somewhat possible that Discord has complied with the U.S. government's request to limit the influx of Chinese users. (Just like Google does.)0 -
You dont have to recompile anything related to discord at all.
You can set up a standard squid proxy, all you have to do to allow discord to communicate with the proxy is setup a acl in the configuration like so….
This will allow discord to communicate through squid proxy and no modifications need to be done to discord for it to work. :D

Squid lacks Chinese documentation, although this is not that difficult for Chinese programmers to solve. But it is almost impossible for an average Chinese user to learn how to use it (compared to downloading a dll file).
如果要用第三方软件,Clash For Windows 的 TUN 模式,能一键让 Discord 的流量经过代理。如果不想一直打开 TUN 模式,可以先登录 Discord ,再关闭 TUN 模式。
Speaking of third-party software, I suddenly remembered that Clash For Windows has a TUN mode, that can let Discord traffic go through the proxy with one click. If you don’t want to keep TUN mode on, you can log in to Discord and then turn off TUN mode.
