Also close to tray when Alt+F4 is pressed and the relevant setting is enabled
I use the feature that closes Discord to the Windows system tray when you hit the 'X', but I am also someone who frequently uses Alt+F4 to close my applications. So when I use Alt+F4 on Discord, it closes completely and I normally don't notice until someone messages me via Steam, asking me why I am not responding to their messages on Discord XD
Personally I find this quite annoying and I pray to the gods of Discord to bless us with a fix that also closes Discord to the system tray when Alt+F4 is used.
Being a Windows app developer, you tend to make use of a single event to handle application shutdown logic, so whether you hit the X or use Alt+F4, it gets handled by the same method, and I think that would be a good idea for discord too.

Yes, please. ALT+F4 is a Windows system shortcut for System > Close, which is also the same as the "red ❌" in the caption bar. When the option "Close to tray" is enabled, System > Close and the "red ❌" minimize the Discord window to the Windows notification area. Unfortunately, ALT-F4 still exits the application, which is completely unexpected (and undesirable). It is tedious to take my hand off the keyboard, grab the mouse, find Discord's X, and click it to minimize Discord to the notification area. ALT+F4 is much faster.

Since they probably won't fix this, I created a simple solution:

Only now I realised this is a supposingly "feature"!
I was wondering why my Discord randomly closes completely when I ALT+F4.... OMG just who thought this was a good idea? I have never ever used any other program where ALT+F4 and clicking on X does a different thing from each other.

+1 here too -- for what I can remember this is the only app ever that treats Alt-F4 differently from the regular Window close button. And I'm very keyboard oriented, so I close off Discord waaay more often than I'd like. So far I used Discord only in gaming sessions where this design flaw was 'only' just a big nuisance (don't alt-tab there too often), but my company has now also started to use it, so I'd rather have it stay open all day, please.

Hope the prio of this ticket will be raised, because 2 years is a little bit long for this simple task..

My heart when I saw this thread is over 2 years old, why is alt+f4 an instant kill option where almost no other app I use doesn't support alt f4 -> system tray? :( I keep killing discord calls because I think I'm alt tabbed into a game on my second display..

I'm moving to Discord from Slack, and apparently I was in the habit of using my Alt+F4 mousebutton macro to minimize Slack to the System Tray, because I am frequently closing Discord by accident.

bump
honestly, nobody addresses this major ux design flaw for all those years?
on every single program on windows, alt-f4 closes the window, not the app if it can be minimized to tray

This is also an accessibility issue (like already mentioned by ArkiTechyDaddy): there's no way to minimize Discord using the keyboard only.
None of the AutoHotkey scripts that I have seen don't take into account a related bug: after minimizing Discord to the tray, the focus goes to the taskbar instead of the topmost window. So after minimizing Discord to the tray with Alt+F4, you need to press Alt+Tab to focus the topmost window.
My AutoHotkey scripts works flawlessly: https://github.com/mtsknn/AutoHotkey/tree/master/scripts/discord_minimizer

Yes please, this happens to me all the time! I use Discord for work and sometimes miss important messages because the behavior is not as expected and the program closes completely. I use Alt+F4 on literally every application, way more than any other means of closing them, and I can't seem to (and don't really want to) shake the habit for this one exception.

This has been bothering me since forever and I just searched to see if it bothered anyone else - signing up just to say please PLEASE separate alt-f4 from close app to it's own hotkey (preferably remappable Ctrl-W to match browsers and explorer etc) or let us remap terminate / close window. This is getting silly, 4 years? Seriously?
